Nature is beautiful and terrifying

My brother lives in Port St Lucie. Hopefully he's got everything tied down!

Hey @Allan, speaking of which, when are you Canucks finally put out your forest fires?😁

Looks like this one's headed for the panhandle, which might put Apalachicola and Panama City in path. Of course it could shift at the last minute, too.

Were raking as fast as we can but 367 million hectares takes a while, especially while fighting off grumpy beavers.
Been a decent wildfire season. Far as I know only 1 firefighter and 1 helicopter pilot killed. 10's of thousands evacuated but no towns destroyed that I know of.
Maybe I can borrow an emoji from @gman to celebrate.

It is important to understand that as where it will "hit" refers to the center. This storm, as with most, will be wide enough that even areas not actually "hit" are going to get pounded. Here in Sarasota, we are not shown in the path of the storm, but it is going to be a pain in the ass anyway. Went to store to stock up, and oh lord the store was packed. Could be an adventure starting tomorrow night. And of course I am babysitting my 13 year old niece and 3 dogs, just to make it more fun.

I wish you, your niece, and your dogs, well.

some guarantee's in life

live on the plains and tornadoes will be around you
live in CA and you'll experience earthquakes
live on the gulf coast/SE USA coast and you'll get hurricanes
live in a low flood plane and you'll get flooded

just prepare best you can and stay safe and have great insurance

Great insurance is becoming a rarity, that’s if you can even afford it.😵‍💫

you're right

its better to not have insurance and let FEMA pay for all your damages I guess :(

CBS News says this is likely to be a Cat 4 by landfall.

Nature is bad for you. Been telling you that.

Still living a comfortable lifestyle at the moment. I live by an estuary in the Tampa Bay Area on the top floor of a six story building about 4 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. While ground flooding can occur, I don’t anticipate any serious flood situation in my complex.

Electricity, IMO, also not likely to go off any sooner than early afternoon tomorrow.

As long as I have internet access, I hope to post occasional updates in this thread.
