The flurries tied a record for Houston's earliest snowfall ever and warmed the hearts of winter weather lovers who have pined for snow since it last made an appearance on Christmas Eve 2004.
"I've got a pot roast in the Crock-Pot, and I'm going to go home, change into my warmest pajamas and eat pot roast and enjoy what may be the only real winter day we have all year," said Tina Arnold, an Illinois native who took advantage of the wintry backdrop to pick up Christmas presents Wednesday at The Woodlands Mall.
Since 1895, records indicate, snow has fallen this early just once — on Dec. 10, 1944.

Yep, that's right folks, those damned dastardly deniers keep saying it's getting cooler, natural cyclical patterns, sun spots... the fact it's been cooling for 10 years.. all lies.

Because the earth is being polluted, unbalanced by man!!! We need ot brace our selves, for more of THIS!!!

What's your question, please? If world climate is getting cooler?

.

I'm merely using weather to illustrate the power of climate change.

Yeah, it snowed here (Austin) a tiny bit on Tuesday night; there was still some ice sticking to things yesterday morning.
This is unusual, but not unheard of. It's happened before. A number of times.

Austin, really? You're like a 2 hour drive away... scary!

;)

Gil's right though, how MANY "isolated" incidents does it take? Mind you, I'm merely using the same trick they use here... ya know.... show a few Glaciers in retreat, IT'S GLOBAL WARMING!!! Or a heatwave in the middle of summer, or a rash of Tornadoes in a 2 day span.

Winter Storm Warning for Baton Rouge??? When was the last time this happened??

..WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TODAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SLIDELL HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TODAY. THE WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

A STRONG AND COLD UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM COMBINED WITH LOW
PRESSURE OVER THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE WILL CAUSE RAIN TO MIX WITH
SLEET AND SNOW THIS MORNING ACROSS EAST CENTRAL LOUISIANA...
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND EXTREME SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI AND COASTAL
MISSISSIPPI. THE WINTRY MIX HAS CHANGED OVER TO MOSTLY SNOW...DURING
OF THE MORNING RUSH HOUR ACROSS BATON ROUGE AND THIS SNOW IS
EXPECTED TO SPREAD EAST THIS MORNING.

TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE POSSIBLE ON GRASSY
AREAS...AND ELEVATED ROAD SURFACES LIKE BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES.
SNOW ACCUMULATION OF TWO INCHES ON HIGHWAYS AND ROADWAYS...ESPECIALLY
INTERSTATE 12 AND INTERSTATE 55. MANY ACCIDENTS WERE REPORTED BY
STATE POLICE IN THE BATON ROUGE AREA AND THIS THREAT WILL SPREAD
EAST.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

I'm up here in Dallas.:2wave:

I'll be up in Ft. Worth next Friday to get the kiddos from the x. She's in Kansas, and we have to meet 1/2 way. I HATE THAT DAMNED DRIVE up I35, specially through Austin... bleah!

Woah! Baton Rouge? Winter Weather... must be GLOBAL WARMING at work Gil, cause if it wasn't for that extra push of 1.3ppm of CO2 last year...

We truly, are reaping what we sow.

Record warm temperatures hit Russia by Philip Avery
Over the past few weeks, several records have been broken in Russia for unseasonably mild weather, including the warmest ever December temperature on record.

In Moscow, a temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius (49F) was recorded on Saturday, the highest December temperature in the history of meteorological observations. Strangely, this record occurred at 3 o’clock in the morning, when usually the temperature would be plummeting towards its minimum.

During Russia’s long, harsh winters, the temperature in Moscow rarely rises above freezing, and the average December temperature ranges between minus 10 and minus 5 degrees C (14 to 23F). This recent warm spell has brought temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above normal, with some climate meteorologists claiming this is further evidence of global warming.

The unusual warmth has been due to winds from the south and southwest that have been bringing warmer air from southern Europe. Russia has not been the only country to feel the impact of this warmer air. High temperatures have also been recorded in countries such as Belarus, Hungary and Ukraine. These winds look set to gradually turn more northerly and easterly this week, introducing some cooler air to the region.

The warm spell has not just been confined to the past few weeks. Autumn 2008 was the warmest autumn for more than 100 years in the Moscow region.

Bulgaria City of Shumen with Record Warm Temperatures for December

4 December 2008, Thursday

The Bulgarian city of Shumen registered a temperature record on Thursday, according to local meteorologists.

The temperature measured at 2:00 pm has been 20,1 degrees Celsius. The previous record for December was registered in 1985 when the temperature in the city reached 19 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures in Northeast Ohio shattered a 101-year-old record today, climbing to 64 degrees.

At 1:33 p.m., the temperature surpassed the record of 63 set on this day in 1907. Less than 45 minutes later, at 2:16 p.m., the temperature went up another degree to 65.

A spokesman for the National Weather Service said it's possible temperatures will go even one degree higher by mid-afternoon

Moscow reports a ‘heatwave’. Source: RSOE 4th December 08 -

"The temperature in Moscow climbed to 6.6 degrees Celsius (44 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday, breaking a 47-year-old record, the Russian meteorological website WWW.HMN.RU: 14 , , , reported. "At 15:00 Moscow time (noon GMT), the air temperature climbed to 6.6 degrees Celsius in northern Moscow, breaking the 1961 record and setting a new one for December 3," the report says. On December 3, 1961, the temperature in the capital reached 6.2 degrees Celsius (43.2 degrees Fahrenheit). The average high and low temperatures in December in Moscow are -4 and -8 degrees Celsius (24.8 and 17.6 degrees Fahrenheit), respectively. The day was also the warmest for the surrounding region, where the temperature reached 6.1 degrees Celsius (43 degrees Fahrenheit), surpassing a 0.5 degrees Celsius reading set in 1979. The Russian capital has seen a spell of unusually warm weather in recent months. On November 12, the temperature in Moscow reached 8.9 degrees Celsius (48 degrees Fahrenheit), setting a new record. This October was the warmest on record in Moscow, with an average temperature of over 9 degrees Celsius (48.2 degree Fahrenheit)."

Shall I continue, or do you get the gist?

Tell me Gill and Mr Vicchio, what will it take for you two to realize the difference between weather and climate?

And not a single link to support your quotes.... tsk, tsk.

Please point out where I have claimed these were anything but weather events.

Put up or shut up.

I will ask you one question though. What is climate data based on?

It's snowing hard in New Orleans now and we haven't even gotten the most of it.

The last time this happened was Christmas day about 5 years ago.

I'm not driving to work in this. No way!

This one is even easier to comprehend:

Weather and Climate Basics

I love how it starts out: :rofl

It’s a sweltering midsummer day. “It must be global warming,” mutters someone. But is it the Earth’s changing climate that has made the day so warm? Or, is it just the weather that is so unbearable?

And to answer your question, Gill, hopefully it's not unreliable satellite temperature recording.

I know! That Christmas day 5 years ago i wouldn't drive to my parent's house for dinner. This city comes to a complete stop when it snows. ;)

I think it started early enough for the kids to get the day off.

Still snowing hard....

I lived in NYC for about ten years and the snow was one reason I moved back to Dallas. I hate snow now!!!! When it snows here I'm willing to drive in it but people here just don't know how to do it here!!!!

Thank you for the links. I'll look at them when I get a chance. I'm still waiting on Siberia though.

I know the difference between climate and weather, you obviously don't. That's why I asked you the question and your answer confirmed by belief.

Now, maybe you would expound on your ridiculous assertion that satellite temp data is unreliable. Please don't bring up that error that was corrected years ago. But, be prepared to defend land based temp data too, especially the Giss Temps. Now that's an unreliable temperature data set. There have been many more error corrections in the GISS set than in either of the two satellite based sets and that's not even counting the very limited number of recording sites or the fact that most of their sites don't meet their own criteria for proper sighting.

I'd like to hear a decent rebuttal to the AGW theory. I've heard little but conspiracy theories and stuff that could come from people who believe in creationism.

What a ridiculous conclusion. Why would you think that anyone that is skeptical of AGW believes in creationism?? That is quite a leap.

snow blocking door...can't get out.....getting weaker....hope help comes soon........

If you want some more stories on 'weather', here you go:

China’s ice breaker Xuelong or “Snow Dragon” is blocked by thick ice around the Antarctica during her 25th expedition to Antarctica, on Nov. 24, 2008. An ice detection team was formed on Tuesday to search for new routes due to the thick and condensed ice that stopped the ice breaker. (Xinhua/Liu Yizhan)

Europe is shivering through an extreme cold snap. One of the coldest winters in the US in more than 100 years is toppling meteorological records by the dozen, and the Arctic ice is expanding. Even Australia has been experiencing unseasonable snow. But the stories about global warming have not stopped, not for a second.

Michael Plummer was looking forward to the ski season after sitting out all of last year because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament. But he didn’t think it would come this early.

Tuesday’s snowstorm kicked off a five-day accumulation that has reached about 46 inches of snow, allowing Snowbird Ski Resort to open Friday, the second-earliest start in the resort’s 38-year history. The resort didn’t open until Nov. 28 last year.
Snow arrives early at Snowbird - Salt Lake Tribune

Ski resorts across Europe and North America have opened early this season after heavy snowfall in the last month.

A series of snowstorms since early November in North America and late October in Europe has enabled several resorts to open ahead of schedule.

The Italian resort of Bormio has opened a month early after heavy snowfalls at the end of October and start of November delivered 50ins to the resort's upper slopes.

I could do this all day.

Gill, I don't give a rat's ass whether is freezing cold in Australia, or bikini-balmy in Siberia today. Now if both, or one or the other persists over a few years, then fine, there might be something there. Otherwise, if you're poving the point the GW is non-existant today because a city is experiencing record cold snaps, then you have no concept of climate, let alone reality.

Hey, I'm here in New Orleans, too! I realize that isolated weather incidents don't necessarily mean climate change, but some of us believe recent data that GISS' Hanson hasn't gotten his mitts on and edited. By the way, New Orleans typically gets one of these freak measureable snow events maybe once every 10 years or so, and this one is earlier than I've ever seen in my 55 years. Our last such snow was colder and longer, on Christmas 2004.

Hey, Middleground, just for you I took a picture of an honored guest who was just spotted in front of my office! We rarely get to meet such celebrities around these parts... enjoy! He really looks kind of chic, really, with all that gold... he could walk tall in the 'hood!

It will be so damned sad when he melts later!
