A New Jersey discrimination suit has been settled with two white corrections officers winning against the state’s Department of Corrections. The outcome of the lawsuit is seen as a big win for corrections officers Joe Milutin and Bob Healey. Both were awarded more than $3 million in damages.
“I’m happy. I was vindicated and that’s all that matters,” Healey said.

There are no doubt those that will say that the jury was rigged and these two guys are liars. If they even comment on this case. But frankly I'm glad these two won. This country is so focused on showing that whites are the racists that it is time to start showing that other races can be racist also.

Theres some truth to what you said...I posted it because of it being unusual, not too long ago an old white jury would be quite reticent to make a decision like this...times are changing in many many ways.

I look at it that the taxpayers lost. They're the ones that'll be paying the $3 million award. No talk of anyone losing their job either. Without that? The article is exactly right: it was a big win for the two guys. Nothing more.

.

Although I agree with the verdict, I don't agree with the award. 3 million is probably 5 times what these guys will make in a lifetime. I think excessive jury awards suck.

People get sick and tired of always being blamed for every little thing, especially when they're not at fault at least half the time. Push a person enough and they will start pushing back.

I know that there's always been racial tensions and racism in this country and that it will last for some time to come. But it seems to me that more false accusations of racism has surfaced than ever before since Obama was elected. And no, I'm not blaming him. Despite how much I don't like him he is not responsible for other peoples mouths opening up and spewing crap.

Your wrong about what they make...they make close to 90k a year...but thats not the point...the abuse went on for many years...

Re: N.J. Jury Rules Black Supervisors Discriminated Against White Corrections Officer

Actually the award is going to cost the taxpayers alot more than 6 million and it may be very much higher than this...since the state announced it may appeal.

Milutin = $600,000.00 award on case
Healey = $450,000.00 award on case

Both plaintiffs = all Attorneys fees to be paid

Milutin = $3,000,000.00 punitive damages

Healey = $3,000,000.00 punitive damages

Totals:

Milutin = $3,600,000.00 plus Attorney fees
Healey = $3,450,000.00 plus Attorney fees

$7,050,000.00 PLUS Attorneys fees

Sorry but I'm finding it rather odd that the cost is being talked about in this case when you consider that the cost is never considered (that I have seen) when it comes to someone that is white being found guilty of racism and bigotry.

Heh...Kal Stang I honestly dont know when cost is talked about or not in any case...The reason Im getting this information is that I have a relative that works in the Dept of Corrections.
Please understand I have no horse in this race...I posted it originally because its the first reverse descrimination case I can remember being won in a law enforcement agency or setting. I thought some would find it interesting....yes its a racially involved incident but I didnt post it with racial motivations.

Re: N.J. Jury Rules Black Supervisors Discriminated Against White Corrections Officer

The allegations proven are that the supervisors used racial epithets against the officers and tolerated the same kind of abuse from convicts. I have absolutely no heartburn over the punitive damages award in this case. These guys didn't work in an office -- they worked in an environment where their survival depended on maintaining the respect of inmates and closing rank with their brother officers.

It's a nine days' wonder no officer was killed, and hell yes, those supervisors should have been fired.
