Another one bites the dust...and another one...and another one...

There's trouble in Trumpland; Tesla CEO and head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk, has taken public swipes at Donald Trump’s adviser on trade and manufacturing, Peter Navarro, who helped shape the president's reciprocal tariff policy that tanked markets across the world.

Musk is typically vocal in his support and defense of the president, but has been quiet since Trump's "Liberation Day" tariff announcement that killed $2.5 trillion from the U.S. stock market — a loss of value that cost the Tesla CEO more than $30bn, according to CNBC.

Only three days after President Trump announced sweeping tariffs, including a 20 percent tariff on goods from the European Union, Elon Musk said on Saturday that he hoped that Europe and the United States moved “to a zero-tariff situation, effectively creating a free-trade zone.”

Mr. Musk made the remarks during a videoconference appearance with Italy’s far-right League party in Florence. They came after the tech billionaire turned presidential confidant had stayed largely silent about Mr. Trump’s tariffs.

During Mr. Trump’s first term, Mr. Musk had said there should be “no tariffs at all either way” between the United States and Britain.

Mr. Musk also said that he hoped that the United States and Europe could “establish a very close partnership,” a statement that contrasted with the contempt members of Mr. Trump’s administration have shown for Europe, and statements by Mr. Trump himself, who claimed the European Union was created to “screw” America. He added that he wished there were “more freedom of people to move between Europe and North America.”...

Good. Two dirt bags about to bite the dust.

I think this is a bit of a political game. Musk funded and conducted several interviews with AfD in Germany in connection with the election. Now he’s in Italy meeting with the far-right there. The thing is, Meloni’s ruling party (Brothers of Italy) belongs to the “other side” of Europe’s far-right. That is, they are not pro-Russia but pro-Ukraine. If he can get them to switch sides before the French election and Le Pen wins the president post, he’ll have a strong far-right coalition in Italy/ France that are Pro-Russia. To pull that off, he either needs to convince Meloni or undermine her. I think he’s aiming for the latter right now, since his meeting in Italy is with Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini. Salvini is the leader of the far-right Lega party, which is pro-Russia (and has received funding from Russia). He wants to give the far right momentum: “If we have power, the US and Europe will once again form a coalition for global dominance,” or something like that...

And of course, there are no tax breaks in the world that can make up for the losses the American elite is currently taking

Le Pen has been banned from standing for office for five years at least, after having been found guilty of embezzlement.

Yes, but the Court has decided to bring the appeal trial date forward.

Maybe Musk has found his buyers remorse after coming down off that ketamine high.

In a normal administration, top advisers blatantly contradicting each other would be quite scandalous.

In the occupying Trump regime, it’s just another Sunday of American misery for the sake of the super rich.

If there's any justice she'll lose. Fascism runs in the Le Pen family, with her late father being a staunch Holocaust denier and anti-Semite. 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree...'

Lol, I love the quote from Sowell:

"In every disaster throughout American history, there always seems to be a man from Harvard in the middle of it," the quote, attributed to Sowell, said.

$$$ & power is the only thing Republicans care about so if markets keep diving hard and it is due explicitly to Trump's actions (not say, a global pandemic) maybe that will be when the party finally "stands up" to Cheeto Jesus

Musk seems to support anything that is best for him personally, like most of MAGA. They can wave all of the flags and call themselves patriots all they want but todays RINO Republicans are all about greed and themselves.
Also, our trade deficit has one major cause. It isn't the unfairness of other countries. It is our consumerism. We buy and buy. Then we throw the stuff away and buy some more. If we want to change the trade deficits then we should just buy less as individuals. We are the second largest manufacturing country in the world, second only to China, but we are far and away the most prolific buyers of any of them. Our buying habits dwarf all other countries.

I noticed Musk was MIA in recent days, but assumed it was due to his WI Election failure.

Good. Now we need Bezos, Dimon and Zuckerberg to say the same.

I've never understood the Trump/Musk bromance. I get the megalomania, but wouldn't Musk be doing far better under a Harris administration? He would, but he wouldn't be given a chainsaw. It's all about the power.

Musk is a globalist. Trump is a protectionist. Trump hates EV's. Musk produces them. Musk understands production costs. Indeed, that's what he does. He doesn't know how to build a Tesla, a rocket, a robot nor a battery pack. He doesn't know how to drill a tunnel nor construct a plant. He only knows how to organize efficient production of these products.

This has worked well for Musk, leaving out government incentives which have sustained his businesses at many levels. Putting Musk in charge of the SBA would have made sense. Let Musk work his magic with American entrepreneurs. Giving him a chainsaw and putting a blindfold over his ignorant eyes is insanity.

It's a travesty. This area has been waiting on the Tesla semi factory since it was announced in January 2023. It finally broke ground last year and is slated to begin production in Q4 this year. The expectation is 3,000+ jobs. Skepticism can be found if trucking companies reject the Tesla brand as have consumers. The Tesla battery plant will soon, if not already, suffer layoffs due to auto sales falling off a cliff.

Trucking companies care about costs, not popular opinion, so perhaps the future jobs are intact. Pepsico has been the main guinea pig during the test period. No reports of vandalism. It's a superior product. Hopefully, Musk steps down and keeps his power hunger limited to his companies.

And the corporations who use it to squeeze profits, the same corporations the GOP has fallen to their knees for decade after decade in the name of tax cuts. It's all so irrational.

Yes, however when popular opinion results in massive drops in sales, that's when they need to begin paying attention. Tesla sales in Europe are down 70%.
