When it's a mosque in NY city, it's a clear monument to the triumph over the infidels on 9/11, a throwback to the Muslim tradition of building mosques on conquered Christian lands. Obviously!
When it's Christians who say they're sending a message to local Muslims who want to build a mosque, then it's all "whoa whoa whoa, let's not jump to conclusions!"
But look at it,obviously there is some hidden meaning behind it.

Well, I have a statement by the church saying it's a message to the Muslims in no uncertain terms.
And honestly, James. What do you expect them to say to the media? "Yeah, we hate those towel-head terrorists and they don't deserve to be here"? Gimmie a break. Just admit they are being dicks to their Muslims neighbors so I can go back to cleaning my house.
That is true for some liberals, but not for many others. There is actually a large number of Christian liberals who view government as a vehicle for fulfilling the biblical commands to love thy neighbor and to be your brothers keeper. The welfare state, for them, is faith based and therefore moral. For them, the separation of church and state is mere rhetoric.
So is this more those MSNBC republican dog whistles? Crosses on a church lawn, especially a church law that is 3-4 miles away from a mosque is somehow MSNBC dog whistle code for "we hate muslims"?
No.
You asked for some sort of "proof" of what their message to the Muslims is.
And I'm saying what do you expect? For them to come right out and say, yeah, we don't want these Muslims in our neighborhood and we oppose the mosque? I have no proof of their message. I don't have secret documents or recorded conversations. But I have ~30 years of life in America, and I know intolerant BS when I see it. This is that BS.
So go ahead and jump, dodge, duck and weave around what the pretty clear intent of the church's message is. The rest of us can see the obvious.
And why are so so hell-bent on defending these douches? It's not like I'm advocating getting rid of their tax-status or closing them down or even removing the crosses. All I'm doing is proclaiming that these people suck and should be ashamed. What is your big self-interest in defending such crappy people?
Got me wondering if the church down the street has any Crosses out front I just haven't noticed and who they are taunting if they do.
The intent is obvious by all the context outlined in the story.
Nothing is wrong with a Christian Church putting up a cross. In fact, I resent atheists activists who go around trying to get every religious symbol off public property.
But in this case, people (who call themselves Christian) are going out of their way to make life difficult for Muslims in their community. This type of behavior is not Christian.
I read the article. I understand that they are doing it in response to the mosque being built across the street. I simply don't understand how putting crosses in the yard of their church makes things difficult for the muslims in the community?
You are right, you have no proof. The mosque is 3-4 miles away from the church, so they are not in the same neighborhood
Baseless assumptions is what you have. If no one interviewed these church people no one would be speculating about the significance of 13 crosses on their property, those going to the mosque would have probably figured that is just something Christians in that part of town do.
These people put up crosses on church property,It does not make them douches. As far as you know they only doing this to make a statement that their religion is better Islam or that their faith is the one true faith .Many people who are actually religious feel that that way about their religion or religious denomination. I do not know about the churches in your city but churches have everything from bells, billboards, crosses and other stuff of their church property.

Keep in mind, if you read the article, there was more to it then just a bunch of crosses.
Reading the article very important BEFORE posting.
Baseless assumption! No evidence whatsoever! Absolute zero.
Whatever James.
LOL
I don't think you understand how this sentence actually hurts your argument.

Actually the churches and mosque are not across the street from each other. They are miles apart.I read the article. So the members of the church say they don't like their new neighbors. Isn't this America? Is there a law that says we have to like all the people that live in our city?
That was only part of what they were doing.
The multiple crosses were there as a taunt-- a blatant misuse of the a Holy symbol.

Therefore...
1. This church, who voted to post up a bunch of crosses for the members of the mosque to see, are douchebags. Just because what they did is legal doesn't make it right or good.
2. On a wider scale, organized religion is a way for all manner of ****ty people to justify their ****ty behavior.
Nope, just like there isn't a law that says you can't complain about douchebags like this so called "Christian Church" and their tactics.
Seems like you have a problem with people exercising their freedom of speech against this church.
is there some rule that says a liberal cant have faith in a religion.
Most liberals tend to view religion no different than a harry potter book and that religion is something you should separate from your professional and political life.
