How smart was the Vietnam war? The lives of over 40,000 Americans (and millions of Vietnamese) were thrown away. And for what? The "commie" government remained in power. The U.S. has since normalized trade relations with Hanoi. What exactly was accomplished through all that bloodshed?

What exactly is going to be accomplished for the long term in Iraq or even Afghanistan? The CIA's old bearded buddy remains at large. Support for fundamentalism is stronger than before. The U.S. continues to be allied with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a reactionary regime even more repressive than Saddam's government ever was, especially toward women. What has been accomplished?

When are Americans going to stop falling for the scams of financiers, militarists and industrialists who trick people into war so they can amass even more obscene amounts of wealth and power?

All of this talk of patriotism from patriotards who are blind to who the real enemy is.

So they donate $600,000 in medical supplies to the families of terrorist and hassle military recruiters in attempt to try to drive them out of town as a means of supporting the troops? Isn't that like saying you do not want the police to get hurt while at the same time ban funding for bullet proof vest and try to make laws that ban the use of deadly force?

You should spend time in Norfolk. "No sailors or pets" signs where not uncommon at apartment complexes until the city made them illegal. The police targeted vehicles with DoD stickers on them.

Wow. How long ago was this? I was just across the bridge in Newport News for a bit over 5 years and the entire atmosphere of the area seemed incredibly pro-military.

Jacksonville Fla was almost as bad. It seems that most military towns I have been to don't like the military people. The military is largely young, loud and heavy drinking, and as such people tend to resent them...until there is talk of closing one of the bases in a town.

my inlaws live in hampton, i have never seen any resentment... :shrug:
