Most economists cite Japan's sudden jump in economic recovery and their strong yen.
So it's not so much California slipping down as much as it is Japan's strength.
California didn't slip down, Japan is zooming past us.
 
Man, those Japanese were in the slumps for… how many decades now? Their stock market basically flatlined for a loooooong time. They are just now catching up to where they were in the 1980s!

It’s nice to see they are finally getting back on their feet.
