MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of the presidential campaign.

David Gregory, the NBC newsman and White House correspondent who also hosts a program on MSNBC, will take over during such events as this fall's presidential and vice presidential debates and election night.

MSNBC Drops Olbermann, Matthews as News Anchors

I actually agree with this move, more so with Olbermann than with Matthews. I mentioned in a post that I thought Keith was going to have an orgasm after Obama's speech at the DNC. I prefer listening to feedback that is constructive and more objective, like Pat Buchanan. However, I didn't like listening to Pat Buchanan when he was discussing Palin and McCain's speeches because he stopped being objective. So it goes both ways.

I didn't see that Matthews was behaving the same way as Olbermann, but maybe because I am a lefty I didn't notice it.

Now Fox News has to follow suit and fire.. just about everyone

Two things - first of all, Petey shut up. Your partisan rants don't carry much weight when you can't even define "unbiased". Secondly, it was a bad move putting Olbermann in this role in the first place. You don't see O'Reilly anchoring coverage for FOX News, why would MSNBC put their "top pundit" in that role? Matthews has become more and more biased over the past several years. I used to watch Hardball every day, but stopped when he started showing blatant partisanship more and more.

Election coverage, at least from an "anchor" standpoint should be as unbiased as possible. I believe David Gregory is quite biased too, but far less so than either Olbermann or Matthews. Of course it's MSNBC and they aren't trying to hide their bias anymore. But keeping Olbermann and Matthews as anchors during the election isn't going to win over any new viewers which they desperately need. This was a smart move for MSNBC, but I'm not sure how it will play out down the road. I believe it is a huge opportunity for Gregory to shine, but time will tell.

You think Gregory is biased towards the left? I feel like he's been having orgasms talking about Palin lately! ;)

Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews Booted From MSNBC Political Anchor Desk

Link

Keith Olbermann may be the “voice” of MSNBC, but network executives have decided to yank the talkmeister off its politican anchor desk after the cable channel finishing dead last in the Nielsen rankings of all news coverage during the two weeks of political conventions.
The network announced Monday that Olbermann and Chris Matthews have both been booted as co-hosts on political night coverage in favor of David Gregory, whose White House press corps experience may make him better suited to deliver sober and less opinion-driven assessments of the news.
Looks like Olbermann finally got his comeupins.

Re: Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews Booted From MSNBC Political Anchor Desk

Olberman was/is a failed sportscaster, nobody took him seriously then, so it's no surprise that he failed at this level too.

There is no liberal bias.....

PLEASE tell me they're gone forever.

(Interesting they're picking up rachel maddow just as this is going on... I mean come on, rachel maddow?)

They had him co-hosting Sunday Night Football last night (not in the booth - that was Al Michaels and John Madden as usual). Dan Patrick was the only bright spot but the chemistry was off and Olberman's voice ruins football highlights for me.

Now that is partisanship.

Go Bears!!! :2wave:

Their shows remain on MSNBC. They just won't be news anchors during the debates and whatnot.

Rachel Maddow was picked up prior to Olbermann and Matthews achoring the conventions.

Actually, I thought Olbermann and Patrick were the best SportsCenter anchors ever. Those two together were absolutely hilarious. Craig Kilborn was another hilarious SC anchor, who's career has completely fallen apart, but at least Olbermann is still employed. Kilborn and Olbermann should have stayed at ESPN. They will never achieve the success they had on that network. Olbermann should have stuck with sports because he is a failure at doing anything else. A comedian - yes, a legitimate news anchor covering an election - no.

I don't watch MSNBC, so I was blissfully unaware of whatever Olbermann and Matthews were doing during the conventions(although I am aware of their shows). I caught this bit of news on CNN, who seemed amused by MSNBCs "journalistic integrity", by putting those two on there. I watched the conventions on CSPAN so I could be free of the political commentary of idiots like those guys. I like thinking for myself I guess.

Olbermann is right up there on the whacko chart right beside O'Reilly and Hannity as far as I am concerned.

I wouldn't want to sit near them at a live broadcast with people around. That could be dangerous.

MSNBC Drops Keith Olbermann And Chris Matthews From Anchor Chair -- Election Coverage

I hope I followed these "breaking news rules" correctly:2razz:

EDIT: Had to, the title of the link story was too long so I just slighty modified it.

I thought this was an interesting story that MSNBC is doing to its Co-anchors they have used. The article says they are doing this after the many disputes those two had during the Convention coverage.

Thoughts?

The ironic thing IMO it was likely Brian William’s appearance on “The Daily Show” and Stewart’s comments that broke the camel’s back. When the darling of left wing media is ragging on your network for being a “Lohan” like family, you gotta wake up and smell the coffee. Congrats to NBC for making the smart move, though I think it means I won’t be as personally entertained without Olberman insulting his co-host on air and sowing dissention in the MSNBC ranks.
