Picture a grim police line-up with five young African American men in stereotypical "thug" garb, and a goat. That's just the opening shot.
PepsiCo has announced it is pulling its new ad for Moutain Dew after a storm of criticism this week. Social commentator Dr. Boyce Watkins wrote on his blog that the spot was "arguably the most racist commercial in history." He continues, "Mountain Dew has set a new low for corporate racism. Their decision to lean on well-known racial stereotypes is beyond disgusting. This doesn't even include the fact that the company has put black men on par with animals."
The one-minute ad (the link is gone in most places but you can still see it by clicking here) shows a badly beaten blonde Caucasian woman approaching the line-up on crutches. A white male warden says, "We got 'em all lined up, nail the little sucker." The goat, in a raspy male voice bullies her with phrases, "keep your mouth shut, I'm going to do ya when I get out," "ya better not snitch on a playa'," and "snitches, get stitches, fool." The woman becomes hysterical and runs from the room. As the ad ends, you can hear her screaming off-screen.
The spot is one of a series featuring an intoxicated goat called Felicia created by Tyler, The Creator — leader of the hip-hop collective One Future. Ironically, AdWeek called an earlier video in the series the "Best Ad Ever."

Ok as a minority i didnt find this racists at all, AT ALL. It was obviously HUMOR and nothing else.
and then if one simply does a little investigation you read this:
thats right you read it correctly, it was created by the leader of a hip-hop group called Odd future (its ODD future they actually got it wrong) who is BLACK and the BLACK MEN in the commercial are part of the hip-hop group.
in my opinion Dr. Watkins is off is rocker! SOme might feel different but i certainly do not. IMO this is not racism.
here is another article with the correction

What do you think?
DO you feel this is racist?
Yes
No
Maybe
I liked mashed potatoes
interesting i thought this thread for be more active, i guess i was wrong in assuming there'd be at least a collection of people that would think this actually was racist. Minimum, not that i wanted it, but i thought for sure somebody would try to derail it and use this ONE example to show how there is no racism lol
Oh well im glad when people just agree too, i have no idea what the people against this commercial were thinking though. If i was mtdew/pepsi co. I just get the Group/writer to make a statement tell people to lighten the hell up. lol
There may yet be hope for us if people actually get the joke and don't make everything larger than life.
I guess the powers that be decided the ad was so evil no one can see it. So I can't comment. The video link won't play.
trying to keep this sort of fahsion lifestyle going ,,the whole gangsta rap ideal is ruinous to society and black kids especially...should the race of the person producing it really even be in question?
yeah whats with the goats....i would think thats more of an arab afrodisiac .I don't think it is racist at all except maybe to goats.
i think we need to educate our young that black people that look like this and listen to gangsta rap need to be made fun off...show them having sex with goats isn;t such a bad thing.
this nonsense and destruction of our youth has gone on long enough
same with what we have as politicians...could you see Jackie O stuffing her face like this

i'm trying to show us that we need to get back to family values...good clean living starts with table manners and everything starts there...with table manners ....Apparently I missed that part of the commercial.
