More Solar panel problems.

Good article in the latest Time, about a huge array of solar panels sitting on top of the desert. The first thing I noticed was no inverters, just endless covered cables with DC power. I couldn't believe what I was seeing... Every first year electrical engineer knows that AC is the only way to transfer power.

Even the article acknowledged it... "Catching rays is easy. Storing and shipping solar energy is harder."

Reading further it said, that Utilities control the grid and new wires create thorny not-in-my-backyard zoning issues yet to be resolved.

Hard to believe that all that money would be spent without prior arrangements with the existing utility companies.
