Small problem: Humans are dependent on human food whether or not you feed them.
Duh! That's what zoning and pretty much all business regulation is about.
Food is available to any and all in America. The homeless man / woman you choose to hand food too refuses to accept
societies gift because its either not where they want it, what they want or whatever strings might be attached to get it. To suggest
they'd starve in this nation is ludicrous moronic and typical left wing zealously / extremism.
Homeless people bring down communities, neighborhoods, and bring blight and decay for cities. Ask Detroit. If people
would stop handing them food, money or whatever they'd go where the communities are providing the services needed
for them. Its time to stop feeding the bears so they will stop crapping where they shouldn't.
It's not about the dollar signs. No one is suggesting just giving the homeless hordes of money will help them. I'm talking about programs to help them solve the problems many of them have, which by the way, are often caused by the fact that help was inaccessible to them BEFORE they were homeless. It could be free if everyone just agreed to do it. But in large societies, it always involve planning and thus money.
Right, it's cheaper to just try to starve them out, so that makes it inherently better.
In part, very true. But this was part of the story as well, and it is the cruel part.
How about that?
Take a look at countries that solve the problem your way. The only difference is that they are paying folks to stay off the street.
I can only hope that you never discover how insensitive and silly this comment truly is.
I'm sincere about that.
I have. I've lived in them.
Actually, they have much higher rates of recovery and much less death due to non-treatment.
I find it rather annoying that SOOOOOOOOOOO many American's think that most homeless Americans prefer to be homeless.
Like it's a choice with advantages.
I find that rather disingenuous and somewhat offensive.
The term human food sounds so wrong.
Ever see that old Twilight Zone Episode titled, "To Serve Man?"
Other than those who are mentally incompetent as a result of genetics, it is precisely due to the choices those individuals have made that brings them to that place. Btw, the Devil did not make you do it.
That creeps me out to this day. I remember the first time I saw it. I freaked out.
"It's a cookbook!"
Where's the tipping point? At what point does empathy begin to do them no favors? The sociopathy of some people is just stunning.
"If we just starve them, that'll fix it!"
Right. What if we provided some kind of real help to these people, many of whom are traumatized vets or abandoned teens?
Oh, right, that would involve human empathy.
Are you? Because that's how you're coming off.
One in 45 children experience homelessness in America each year. That's over 1.6 million children.

Damn those selfish a-hole children. Making choices like that.
Radcen, I have been involved in volunteer work involving the homeless. Overwhelmingly the majority of them are mentally unstable. Even when it is freezing cold outside, you can't get many of them to go to the shelter. They will live under the vi-dock in their cardboard houses in below freezing temperatures. We collect blankets, coats, gloves, hats, scarves and simply drop them off in boxes in hope they survive. Some don't.Where's the tipping point? At what point does empathy begin to do them no favors?

I would categorize anyone so strung out on drugs and alcohol not allowing them to make a sound decision to go to the shelter in life threatening temperatures, to be classified as mentally ill. But I never thought about them having pets. Whatever their reasons, you can't get them into the shelters. That's for sure. You can only do what you can do.I too have done this. But there are many more reasons than mental illness. The shelters won't let you drink, do drugs and in some cases won't admit animals. Lot of homeless with pets in Portland these days. They also don't go to shelters because they know they'll likely survive the conditions and this way they retain their autonomy. Folks have all sorts of reasons for refusing charity, or accepting some forms of charity but not others.
