Again you can not get a COVID vaccination without a valid ID. You can not enroll your child in a school without a valid ID. You can not get a loan, buy a new car, a house, or apply for a credit card without a valid ID. You can not take a flight, get a passport without an ID. I don't hear you or any other leftie calling any of these things being suppressive except when it comes to voting. That's bullshit.

We've had Voter ID for 12-13 years now in Georgia. Since it was implemented, minority voter participation has gone UP, not down. None of the dire predictions made by Democrats came true.

Still, they continue to wheel out this tired, racist "we can't expect black people to figure out how to get an ID" argument every time the subject of voter verification comes up.

Yes the fundamental right is for THOSE WHO ARE REGISTERED VOTERS AND U.S. CITIZENS THAT ARE STILL LIVING RESIDING IN THE DISTRICT THEY ARE SUPPOSIDLY REGISTERED be able to cast their vote. By making sure everyone applying for an Absentee ballot, they will need to prove they are still alive, that they are still living in the district they claim is not restricting freedom for so called security. Progressives want to tax corporations and the wealthy to pay for healthcare, housing, and infrastructure, while conservatives have been proponents of trickle down economics, where we give subsidies and tax breaks to corporations and the rich in the hopes some of it trickles down to the middle class. Which one of those sounds more likely to result in the situation you describe above?

The ways the law targets black voters:

• Voters will now have less time to request absentee ballots. (Closing a window for a process that is popular among black voters who are sick of long lines)
• There are strict new ID requirements for absentee ballots. (Literally no reason for this, except that poor people, disproportionately black, tend not to have ID as often)
• It’s now illegal for election officials to mail out absentee ballot applications to all voters. (Absentee ballots very popular among blacks.)
• Drop boxes still exist … but barely. (Another barrier for voters tired of waiting in line, disproportionately black voters)
• Mobile voting centers (think an R.V. where you can vote) are essentially banned. (They were big in Fulton Co., 45% black voters)
• Offering food or water to voters waiting in line now risks misdemeanor charges. (Long lines - black voters)
• If you go to the wrong polling place, it will be (even) harder to vote.(most common in areas where voting stations have been closed - black areas)
• If election problems arise, a common occurrence, it is now more difficult to extend voting hours. (Like long lines, people voting in the wrong place due to polling station closings, mostly in black areas)
• With a mix of changes to vote-counting, high-turnout elections will probably mean a long wait for results. (Mostly in high density areas where blacks live)
• Election officials can no longer accept third-party funding (a measure that nods to right-wing conspiracy theories). (Popular in poorer areas - disproportionately black voters)
• The Republican-controlled legislature has more control over the State Election Board. (More control for gerrymandered legislature that just created all these barriers to black voting.)

Major League Baseball said Friday it will move this season’s All-Star game, a high-profile event that had been scheduled for Truist Park in July, out of Georgia in response to the state’s new voting law.

MLB is also pulling the MLB draft out of Georgia. I expect this will start a trend, with TV and movie production looking elsewhere, and companies like Delta realizing that getting punished over criticizing the laws means that doing business in other places than Georgia makes sense until they pull their crap together.

I've always been of the opinion politics should be kept out of sports. Each has their own proper arena. Most of us watch sports to get away from the reality of life for a couple of hours. Regardless, I received this in my inbox this AM. It is very relevant to politics in the sporting arena where in my opinion it doesn't belong.

I think if one wants to protest something political, have a rally, a protest march, keep it in the protest proper context and arena. I don't want politics mixed in sports since sports doesn't have a thing to do with politics. I've been an avid baseball fan since growing up in the 1950's when there were only 8 teams in each league and only the first place finisher in each league went to the world series. MLB has kept itself relative free of politics, that is until now.

If I want politics, I'll come to this site or turn on C-Span. When I turn on a baseball or other sporting event, that is what I want, not political propaganda.
