Since 'The Man' hasn't started this thread yet, I will.
Here are some great web-sites for baseball info.

Sports Betting Odds, Statistics and Picks
great for current stats on all games--watch out for the spinners an advertisements though--it does seem to be cleaner but has many blogs.

Sports Betting and Gambling News, and Vegas Odds
is probably my favorite because of the odds I must use when I bet in Vegas--also seek out 'news' from the drop-down.
Andthere are no blogs

MLB.com: The Official Site of Major League Baseball
shows a unique pitcher's box in-game, among other stuff.

Baseball-Reference.com - MLB Stats, Standings, Scores, History
is a new one and has an enormous mount of material

We all have our predictions--here are some from so-called 'experts' in Vegas.
And I've got the Mariners over the Cardinals in the World Series.

MLB News: 2015 Season Predictions - at VegasInsider.com.

And, welcome to the National League Lester, as per tonight's game so far .

I hadn't seen the Padres stole Craig Kimbrel (along with the former B.J. Upton) from Atlanta today for Cam Maybin, Carlos freakin' Quentin and some minor leaguers until just now. Geez, the Braves are committed to going in the tank, aren't they?

The Braves went for prospects. Nice move for them- not sure why the Pads wanted Kimbrel since Beniot is decent. Now the Pads have a great bullpen tho.

Kimbrel's the best closer in baseball. The Braves are rebuilding.

Great trade for the Braves. They get one of the best pitching prospects in Wisler and dump Uptons massive contract.

Right. Nice trade for the Braves. Don't see how the Pads improve overall- but then again, I think closers are overrated.

Looking at stats last year, Beniot recorded one blown save, Kimbrel none. Pro-rate Beniot to two BS per year, and you've given up two top prospects for a short term 2 wins per year.

LOL.. Vegas and their odds. Always predictable, go with teams with high payrolls.

I didn't realize there was a MLB season thread too, so I'll post this here too.

I'm not a fan of the DH, but I have a feeling the new commish is going to push to try and get it in the NL. I think he wants the same rule in both leagues and it will be easier to get the NL to adapt the DH than to get the AL to drop the DH.

Nice managing there with Williams not getting them over and getting them in with zero outs and two on.
K, K, and ground out from the 3,4,5 hitters--get used to it gnat fans.

Are you a Mets fan--I see they're starting off with a Cubs-style defensive performance . :lamo

Nice to see you again AE--who wins the AL East and will they have over 81 wins ?

.

You and me both.
LaRussa started this weird "only one guy can hold this lead' crap with Eckersley.
There are varying degrees of saves, though.
Holding a one run lead with runners on base is a much greater accomplishment than holding a 3-run lead, with nobody on, in the 9th.
Both are called saves, but one is obviously more difficult.
Maybe the statisticians can complicate the issue by starting a "save" rating system.
Stupid statistics.....don't get me started on OPS.

It was going on way before Eckersley. I remember Bruce Sutter and Kent Tekulve when Eck was still a starter for Boston.

Saves arent that great of a stat... but blown saves are useful. I was a big fan of early sabermetric stuff (I was such a geek I used to look forward to buying Bill James Baseball Abstract in the 80s every year, and I dont think I EVER actually bought another book for years). Its started to get out of hand these days though. Whats the problem with OPS?

Yeah, but now it's practically a baseball commandment that teams have one overpaid guy to pitch the ninth if their lead is 3-runs or less.
As if no other reliever could possibly accomplish this herculean task.
If the closer is so dominant, maybe he should have been used in that bases loaded jam in the 6th inning?

Well, baseball has tracked on base percentage and slugging percentages in 3 different centuries.
Now, some genius has decided to combine the two stats into one geniusy statistic...OPS.
Really, I don't have a problem with OPS......it's just one more needless, pointless stat.....
It's outta hand, I tellya.......GO GIANTS.

3 unearned runs. Tough to blame the manager.

Yet he's supposed to be a 3B who is tough on fundamentals.
Welcome to the National League, both Lester and Scherzer--Werth, Rendon, and Span are huge losses both ways.

The White Sox sucked on defense--as well as MIL and SD--you won't see this with SF or SL.
This Cle/Hou game just starting should be a great pitcher's duel for 5 innings--my only concern in Vegas. :lamo

And I'll be taking my new car with SiriusXM up to channel 237, Senor--with 1,750 miles one-way.
I hate to put on close to 4,000 miles on it but I've only spent 2,000 miles so far in 6 months

You do remember being a young boy when walks were counted as hits, don't you radio ?

Sirius/XM is the best on long trips. No need to scan and fart around looking for new stations every 50 miles. With XM it's locked in all the way.

No, I don't.
I'm not THAT old.
I actually never knew walks were ever counted as hits.....'til now.
How old are YOU, anyway?

People might find this as interesting as I did. Hardball Times has a 'fielding heat map' showing each team and the projected runs they contribute or take away in the season. A rough guide to good and bad fielding teams....

Not sure if it will show up here in good quality, but if not, here's the link.

The Braves got a lot in return and they got rid of Melvin which was a major plus.

Every game tomorrow is between teams who played against each other this spring except the Cads/Cubs.

Playing at 4:10 Eastern is not exactly the normal time for a day game.
I'd be anxious to catch the shadows and the sun for the batters in this one--though I did see the replay of McCutcheon's HR--the shadows didn't register.
Just one more reason I wait a few weeks until I go west--and to get early patterns .
