Remember the birther movement? Remember how Obama kept his mouth shut, and then, when enough Republicans were sucked into saying that Obama needed to show his birth certificate, he then showed it and made them look silly?

Enter Mitt Romney. Today, Nancy Pelosi joined Harry Reid in putting the pressure on Mitt Romney to show his tax Returns, and more Democrats are piling on every day. And the only thing Romney has to do to end it all is produce the returns, and the whole flap goes away. By not releasing his returns, he is getting hammered, and today, Rasmussen has Obama ahead for the first time in a Rasmussen poll, while other pollsters are beginning to show a bigger lead for Obama. Romney is on the ropes, and may soon be toast........ Or is he?

Mitt Romney is not dumb. He made a career out of playing percentages, and made millions doing it. What better way to push the percentages in this election so far in his favor that Obama is handily beaten than to keep taking the hits, as more Democrats pile on him. Then, in October, as the Democratic vitriol comes to a crescendo, he simply produces his tax returns, and those returns show nothing out of the ordinary. If this happens, the Democrats will look just as silly as the birthers who attacked Obama, some of who attacked him right on the floor of Congress.

If this particular scenario plays out, then it's lights out for Barack Obama, and lights out for Democratic control of the Senate. In this scenario, the GOP will have the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. They will also have the Supreme Court, as it will be more Conservatives replacing Liberals on the bench.

Maybe Mitt Romney read Obama's political play book, and liked a couple of the plays he saw in there so much that he is running those plays himself. Of course, this is just sheer speculation, but why would Mitt Romney commit political suicide? I don't think he would or that he is. He has something up his sleeve over the tax return issue, and I bet that there is a fair to middling chance that I have nailed what it is.

I highly doubt Romney is playing 11-dimensional chess here...he's just not that good of a politician. For one thing, this thinking makes an important assumption: that Romney's tax returns would show "nothing out of the ordinary" as you put it. Secondly, it would be very stupid politics to allow the Democrats to hammer him on this all the way until October, just so he can "make them look silly" at the last minute. Making them look silly would not negate months of concerted attacks on him. If he's going to release his tax returns at all, the smart thing to do would be to do it as soon as possible, preferably at a time when no one is paying attention.

Yea other than voter fraud, impersenating a police officer, bullying homosexuals and so on and so on. No one is squeaky clean and the more "clean" they are the bigger the scandal they are hiding. Romney was a candidate in 08 where was all the beef about all the stuff he pulled on screwing people.

Was one of many candidates and as we saw this time around and last time around... the GOP rarely eats its own and brings out the real dirt. The debates were piss poor, boring and showed nothing of the candidates other than exposing how piss poor they all were. Romney was the crap that rises to the top of a cest pool.

Now in 2012 all the Dems and their seek and destroy mission of uncovering privately held documents has failed. Obama tried the Bain thing and it failed, so now he is on the tax issue, and Obama has his hit men like Reid making a fool of himself on the senate floor.

The Bain attack failed? It is not over yet and has done plenty of damage as Romney cant use Bain as a positive. And the taxes is all Romney's own doing and that of his own father... all he has to do is release the records and get it over with, but the longer he says no, the more suspicious people will get.

All the while you never hear a word from Obama of any accomplishment he has done.

After all, who was it exactly that landed a freaking plane on an aircraft carrier, and stood under a banner with "Mission Accomplished" and said "I" constantly in his speech... it was not Obama that is for sure. Why on earth would they have come out years ago? The investigative journalism in the US is pathetic and has kept politicians secrets buried for years. On top of that, Romney has been a private citizen and unemployed (as he has stated) for years... he did not run for reelection because he knew he would loose badly and his failure in 2008 was just because the GOP had a better candidate in McCain. Romney is not appealing to the middle, and Obama is, with over 8% unemployment for 42 months, in the black community it's 14%, GDP of 1.5%, and adding close to 6 Trillion to our national debt in just 4 yrs. More poor under Obama than any president before him and he is for the middle. I don't think so.

Look at the polls.... if Obama was so bad, then why is he not behind? He is in fact ahead in many key states. How do you explain it... bad polling... all of the polls? Romney should be miles ahead based on "how bad Obama is" no? Well he aint.

i tend to doubt that finding out he paid a percentage similar to what the rest of us pay (which i don't think is the case) would be enough in and of itself to turn the election. there are always October surprises, but i'm not sure this one is likely or would be enough.

i suppose if it comes out that there was some indication of criminal activity, however, that would be a different story. i find that exceptionally unlikely, because Romney has the means to not have to commit a crime to evade taxes. he probably paid the minimum and sheltered the maximum, as is his right to do under the law.

this issue is a diversion by both sides so we don't have to discuss issues which don't lend themselves well to 30 second soundbites, such as the failure of three decades trickle down to deliver for the middle class.

This would be a fine stradegy as long as Romney has nothing detrimental in his tax returns. WHich seems unlikely. McCain, who has seen ROmney's returns, has not denied the claims that ROmney has not paid anything in taxes for years. He has not denied Reid's allegations about Romney's taxes.

Oh, I'm sure they will.

And those that lean left will likely spin parts of it as "immoral" based on their subjective view of it.

Others that lean right will likely spin it as "perfectly normal and acceptable" based on their subjective view of it.

A very small few will just give a cut and dry run down of it without any kind of spin on it regarding the positive/negative aspect of it...these will largely be ignored, still not understood by the public, or simply taken by those that lean left or right who will then apply their own spin on it.

I don't doubt there will be experts that will decode it...I just don't think any of the decoding will result in as clear cut "good" or "bad" of an answer for the fat middle of the country that don't lean heavily either way and are undecided/mostly undecided as the obvious nature of the birth certificate did.

No, not on this issue, Obama's seek and destroy team will make every allocation they can dream up, in an effort to destroy Romney. Romney will then have to spend his time defending himself. Romney should never release his returns. At least this way Romney contains Obama's seek and destroy team to making felonious claims like Reid lying out his teeth making he and Obama's campaign look desperate, and it puts the Dem's on defense trying to defend their own lies. Romney needs to keep pressing Obama's record and stay on message and put the Dem's on ignore over this tax issue.

I'm sticking with my original suspicion as to why Romney isn't being completely transparent. From the around 2005 to today smart money is in investment in the orient. If you're rich and you want to get richer, where do you invest? China. Where don't you invest? America. With exceptions if course. The net result: Mitt Romney paid more taxes to communist China to support things like its ballistic missile program and cyber espionage against US military computer networks than he did in US taxes. Totally inadvertent and most of all, legal. Just a theory but if it comes out that it's true, remember ya heard it first from Smegol on a quest for the PRESCIOUS! I will say this: lately liberals have been willing to turn over national security documents to the media to advance political agendas. If true, do be surprised if the polls start moving in favor of Romney if his tax returns mysteriously get leaked online.

The tax law s true, as I understand it. The global economics is true with China right now being THE place to invest. We know Romney is not showing us everything concerning his taxes, not that he has to. Just filling in the blanks and connecting possible dots. I'm sticking with my original suspicion as to why Romney isn't being completely transparent. From the around 2005 to today smart money is in investment in the orient. If you're rich and you want to get richer, where do you invest? China. Where don't you invest? America. With exceptions if course. I think it's HIGHLY unlikely that Romney was heavily invested in Chinese stocks. While China has certainly been growing at a rapid clip, Chinese companies are notoriously opaque and often engage in shady accounting practices that make their stocks quite risky.

Sorry but this is a lot of BS. Romney is so clean he squeaks. He was a governor, I have not heard anyone jumping up and down about some misdeeds that Romney committed.

Well except for the fact that in 2002 he was caught in an outright lie that probably should have prevented him from running in the first place. Massachusetts has a requirement that to run for governor you have to be a resident of the state for at least 7 years.

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Mitt Romney contradicted his previous public statements yesterday, and said for the first time that he did not file Massachusetts income tax returns for 1999 and 2000 as a resident of this state.

Romney was 100% lying about his MA residency until a week before he released the information. He knew he was lying about an issue of legitimate importance. The people of my state had a right to know whether he really considered himself a member of the Massachusetts community or if he was only running to gain political power. In my opinion, this is actually much worse than this tax situation (unless, of course, of the unlikely scenario where Romney really was breaking tax law).

Eventually Romney retroactively paid his taxes as a primary resident in MA (not that this is in any way commendable, it was the only politically viable option at the time). He then made up a story that it was all a bunch of mistakes, but the article repeatedly puts forth evidence to show how shaky that story is. Even under the very unlikely scenario that it was an accident, it is indisputable fact that, if only for a small time, Romney knowingly lied to the public about an issue that could have disqualified him from being governor. This is not being squeaky clean. It is starting off your political career by claiming the only reason you aren't a huge liar and tax manipulator is that you are somehow incredibly ignorant if your own taxes and state residence. Romney wants to fix the tax code by arguing he routinely makes critical mistakes in his own taxes.

This was only the start of the lying. He claimed he had no business relations to Bain Capital during a period where it outsourced tons of job and bought an abortion disposal company. Turns out he was CEO, President, and sole shareholder. Then he claimed he wasn't actively controlling the company. So if his business experience says anything he is a guy who is willing to let the buck stop way before his desk.

The man is a shameless liar through and through. When caught in a lie he always claims ignorance. In Romney we are either going to get a liar or a deeply ignorant man. My bet is we'll get both.

No, not on this issue, Obama's seek and destroy team will make every allocation they can dream up, in an effort to destroy Romney. Romney will then have to spend his time defending himself. Romney should never release his returns. At least this way Romney contains Obama's seek and destroy team to making felonious claims like Reid lying out his teeth making he and Obama's campaign look desperate, and it puts the Dem's on defense trying to defend their own lies. Romney needs to keep pressing Obama's record and stay on message and put the Dem's on ignore over this tax issue.

Remember the birther movement? Remember how Obama kept his mouth shut, and then, when enough Republicans were sucked into saying that Obama needed to show his birth certificate, he then showed it and made them look silly?

Enter Mitt Romney. Today, Nancy Pelosi joined Harry Reid in putting the pressure on Mitt Romney to show his tax Returns, and more Democrats are piling on every day. And the only thing Romney has to do to end it all is produce the returns, and the whole flap goes away. By not releasing his returns, he is getting hammered, and today, Rasmussen has Obama ahead for the first time in a Rasmussen poll, while other pollsters are beginning to show a bigger lead for Obama. Romney is on the ropes, and may soon be toast........ Or is he?

Mitt Romney is not dumb. He made a career out of playing percentages, and made millions doing it. What better way to push the percentages in this election so far in his favor that Obama is handily beaten than to keep taking the hits, as more Democrats pile on him. Then, in October, as the Democratic vitriol comes to a crescendo, he simply produces his tax returns, and those returns show nothing out of the ordinary. If this happens, the Democrats will look just as silly as the birthers who attacked Obama, some of who attacked him right on the floor of Congress.

If this particular scenario plays out, then it's lights out for Barack Obama, and lights out for Democratic control of the Senate. In this scenario, the GOP will have the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. They will also have the Supreme Court, as it will be more Conservatives replacing Liberals on the bench.

Maybe Mitt Romney read Obama's political play book, and liked a couple of the plays he saw in there so much that he is running those plays himself. Of course, this is just sheer speculation, but why would Mitt Romney commit political suicide? I don't think he would or that he is. He has something up his sleeve over the tax return issue, and I bet that there is a fair to middling chance that I have nailed what it is.

Or maybe I am just ****ing crazy. LOL.

I think they have one, maybe two "clean" years that they've been holding back. 2010-2009. These would be years in which Mitt bit the bullet and paid taxes like the rest of us and didn't use the loopholes and dodges he's accustomed to. I think that's why Ann is so bitter about this. She resents having to pay taxes like normal people and tighten their belts for a year or two because Mitt wants to run for Prez. "Tightening the belt" for Ann Romney is something she never really feels the way the rest of us do. Her life doesn't change one bit.

But Mitt has been playing the game for far too long. Also, someone at the IRS must of passed the returns to Wikileaks. Or someone on the former McCain team made copies. They're just waiting for the right time.

The October surprise is going to be a very bright light shined on how the 1% weasels out of taxes. IMO.
