Mitt still gets it. He understands that this country needs new ideas and leadership and it's time for the next generation to take over. The first time I was able to speak with him during his 2018 run he made it clear he was only going to run for one term and he is still true to his word. He ran because Orin Hatch asked him to run for his seat before he died and he knows it's time to step aside.

I wish more politicians thought like Mitt.

Already a thread on this.

good for Mitt. I wish he would talk to Suzie Collins about integrity, since she also said she would only run for two terms, and yet...here we are.

Yea, I lived in Maine for a few years and was a supporter then. She should go as well.

He's bowing out because like Cheney, he knows he can't win.

Yeah, but she was asked to run for Gov when LePage termed out, and he basically made this long wind-backed speech about why she couldn't leave the Senate. It basically boiled down to her being like #6 in the Senate.
You simply could not invent an eye roll strong enough.

Romney said he remains worried about the state of democracy in the United States. “I think it’s of paramount importance to maintain our commitment to the Constitution and the liberal constitutional order,” he said. “And I know that there are some in MAGA world who would like Republican rule, or authoritarian rule by Donald Trump. But I think they may be forgetting that the majority of people in America would not be voting for Donald J. Trump. The majority would probably be voting for the Democrats.”

Well, Mitt....nothing was stopping you from supporting the John Lewis Voting Rights Act a couple of years ago when the Democrats were trying to protect democracy from Trump and the Republican Nazi Party.
