Mitch McConnell easily defeated his TP opponent in his GOP primary race by 25 points. (60 to 34) Bevins had backers like Glenn Beck who claimed GAWD sent Bevins to save us from 'Progressive' Mitch McConnell. the TPs formed a PAC to defeat Mitch, at a rally put on by Freedom Works a Koch Brothers 'grassroots' organization.

(Course Mitch having 17 million to spend vs Bevins' 1.1 may have had a small part in this... )

So it appears the 'Old Guard' has solid funding while the TP billionaires are not going to spend much in their bid to gain the Senate. Does leave me wondering just how 'happy' Mitch is with the extreme right wing....

Incumbents (from both parties) have won every congress critter primary entered so far this year. This one is news because...?

I live only a few miles from the border so our local media was filled with ads for all three (Bevins, M2 and Obama's babe) Bevins was sort of a joke among us in the vast right wing conspiracy. the fact that the TP heart-throb-rand Paul endorsed Mitch didn't help Bevins. Now he has to beat that vapid but cute 30 something twit the Dems are running

Re: Mitch wins!!!

Why does the tea party not splitt of from the GOP to form a new right wing party?

And while I am at it,

why do the democrats not splitt into a center left and leftwing party..

why do people not splitt from the GOP and the democrats to form a liberterian party?

I believe that your two party system is what is truely crippling American politics.

Re: Mitch wins!!!

Well, let's see how Mitch won. Who backed him with hard cash?

JPMorgan Chase & Co, Elliott Management, Altria Group, Citigroup Inc, Goldman Sachs, Capital One Financial, Berkshire Hathaway.

Yep, he wins. Not even a contest.

The first "major" (demorat or republicant) party to split virtually assures victory to the other unless the new party can immediately draw equally from each major party.

I forgot that in your country a succesfull politician is someone who gets elected, not someone who makes decions to the better of society.

Winning the election is a prerequisite to make those decisions matter. ;)

is it any different other places?

wisdom

that's why I hate purists like some of the anti abortion zealots and some of the tea party morons who gave us "I'm not a witch" etc who then lost races a mainstream "RINO" would have won. Rinos that would have made Orrin Hatch majority leader

Re: Mitch wins!!!

The Libertarin Party lacks only one important thing; enough members to get anyone elected to a federal office. Other than that they are the third largest party in the US. ;)

too many people addicted to too much government

Re: Mitch wins!!!

I remember loads of politicians where I am from who made decisions that were simply right, despite it costing them their career.

During the early 2000s Germany went through a harsh financial crisis, the then left wing government decided that cutting social spending was the only way forward, in the end that cost them the election.

Charles de Gaule decided to release Vietnam and Algeria into independence, that made him so unpopular amongst the right wing of his party that some even tried to assassinate him.

A politician should see public office as having a duty towards his people, not towards his party or himself.

Ford did the same thing by pardoning Nixon.

I agree with you but wishful thinking comes to mind

Wishfull thinking?

Maybe in you country.

Someone who clearly only runs to get elected, wouldnt get elected here.

I have knowledge insufficient to dispute your comment so I won't but I suspect politicians are pretty much the same everywhere so I have my doubts

Nope.

Your country legalised corruption by selling out political influence to corporate interests in exchange for campain contributions and additional paychecks for senators.

Similar to 1970s and 1960s Britain being crushed by union power., that threatend to turn off the nations buisness and withhold votes from parties.

Interest groups that pay their way into influence through money, threats to the nation or guaranteeing votes dont fit into a republic, but into some cleptocrat oligarchy or soviet style mess.

Get rid of that, and I am sure that a liberterian party can gain up to 25% of seats in congress, due to it`s arguments and not because of the party funds.

Each French president so far with the exception of 2 had an affair or 2 or 3 or 4 or.....

One even had an entire second family to spend the weekend with, of which the first didnt knew anything about.

The assumption that politicians are the same everywhere is simply wrong.

That bolded above, which you consider step one, seems to depend on step two - gaining control of congress. ;)

Politicians are the same everywhere but leaders are not synonymous with politicians. ;)

not true.

political culture is inherently different everywhere.

So the guy who spent 17 million dollars got 60% of the vote? Why didn't he get 90% of the vote?

I spent money on Bevins. I am delighted he challenged the status quo republican liberal (SQRL). Now we need to make sure no conservative votes for McConnell. He needs to be defeated. I will begin to support ALG, his democrat challenger.

I want McConnell involuntarily retired.
