Mike Pence finally speaks out - Trump was wrong

Nice! The handwriting is on the wall that the main GOP wants to put The Donald in their rearview mirror.

Because they just gave Pence the greenlight to speak up. Pence knows he has no future in the GOP if he doesnt stick with the main party and The Donald already publicly kicked him to the curb. He's toast in a (nightmare) world where The Donald had any power again.
He didnt grow a spine. See post 21 for a reason for my different opinion.

Yes, that's a very real possibility. He knows he was already in pre-excommunication phase thanks to Trump's rage, so it'd be a reasonable bet to throw in with explicit detractors. It'd certainly be a better bet then trying to asslick his way back into Trump's graces.

Hopefully that bet succeeds. I'm dubious. As long as the base worships Trump, he has a great degree of power in deciding who makes it through a primary. He's going to exercise that power as long as he can, and the GOP will generally be stuck with it....

Trump doesn't care about the law or about anyone except himself....

What's amazing is how bad he is at it. Look at the character in the 1930's book "It can happen here" - it was a smooth-talking, charming All-American guy who fooled people. trump is like rain man fascist. No class, no smooth, no ability to pretend to be a respectable American. We're lucky he's so weak. In comparison to, say, a Reagan who was more polished at pretending.

What he just did was call Trump out and admit Trump had a plan to over turn the election that he lost so badly, this is a game changer. I can't wait for Trump's reply, what does he say?

It'll possibly begin with a nickname and 'Mike'. trump doesn't have a lot of tools.

Pence is actually wrong. trump didn't try to have one man pick the president. It would be 51 people if it went to the House where each state gets one vote; or hundreds total if it went to the state legislatures voting to have 'alternate electors'. Sadly, they had no problem finding those people. Luckily, they couldn't find a specific one, Pence.

MSM utterly oblivious especially CNN. From the CNN panel: "it will be interesting to see what comes Mike Pence's way because of this". Beyond amazing even for dog pile on the carpet CNN.

What are they covering over at Fox News....the World Series of basket weaving?

Jake Tapper won't even call the Chair of the RNC by her name. She has always gone forward as Ronna Romney McDaniel. Tapper calling her Ronna McDaniel. CNN....can't take them seriously.

Better than most Trump Cultists.

Indeed. They do have a uh... *clears throught*.... a ways to go.

Is there anywhere I can get money by betting Pence will not get the 2024 nomination?

Everyone should remember, Pence wanted to do this, and talked to people asking for help to find a way it was possible.

The story is not about Pence's scruples or lack there of. The story is the death of the GOP.

A lot of truth to this, Where does the party go from here, Pence just divided the party even worse and called the chosen one a liar. If Trump escalates maybe Pence will roll over on him with all he knows. You need to be careful who you tick off there Mr. Trump.
No, Pence may have started to save the party. The more republicans who mention the emperor’s lack of clothes, the more people who will come forward to do the same thing, and on and on.

Glad to see it, maybe I can respect him a little more now.

"President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election," Pence continued. "The presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone. Frankly, there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president."

Finally! Dare we hope that the GOP is on the way to returning to sanity?

That would be fine if it can be the GOP I grew up knowing. Its not that I agree with them. Its that the country needs to have both a Liberal voice and a Conservative voice. The country no longer has an actual Conservative voice no matter how much Trumplicans want to claim some ancestral right to conservatism. They are not conservatives...not even close.

I have my doubts about the ability to recover THAT Republican Party, the one that at least had platforms and at least expressed some conservative political values.

One more way trump is incompetent even as a mob boss. He had his first personal lawyer become his enemy, Michael Cohen. His second, he pissed off Rudy Giuliani not paying his legal bills. He didn't pardon his 1/6 mob. He's had family become his enemy. He's had political appointees become at least temporary enemies, like Chris Christie, and figures like Mitch McConnell and Ron DeSantis. He insulted gold star families and NATO. He's going down..

Arent you interested in what “comes Mike Pence’s way” because of this? Republicans’ reaction may say a lot about the GOP.

And obviously CNN loses all journalistic credibility because one anchor leaves out a middle name.

That is not what CNN was saying. They are only interested in the blowback. It does not matter what the story is, they are only ever interested in the blowback. They are worse than Fox News and MSNBC. At least those two take a stand for something other than a dog pile on the carpet.

I am interested in the consequences but not because I am anxious to see either a rhetorical or actual bloodbath which is where CNN's interest is.

it's all about peeling off the people who are hardcore conservatives but think DT is the piece of garbage he is. I'm surprised they are having this hard of a time saying they like his policies, but his craziness is just plain dangerous. I'll take it though.

Waiting for the usual cultists to chime in and say Pence is a puppet and Obama the puppet master.

And a majority of those states would have picked Trump.
