Migrant children pictured howling in pain as they crawl through razor wire to reach the US

I am educated enough to know the headline is a LIE... They are not crawling to "reach the US", THEY ARE ALREADY IN THE US... Happ[y to provide more geography and the history of US/Mexico treaties if needed....
Then why are they crawling through the razor wire?

The core problems are the conditions these folks are fleeing from. Make their countries become a safer place to live and raise children, a place where they have enough food, shelter and medical care to assure them of the same kind of life they would have if they migrated north. Provide that, no more problem.

you want to be a country builder? how'd that work in Vietnam? Korea? Afghanistan? Iraq ?

I'd guess 3-4 billion people live in poverty and in places that are crap hole countries - think half of central/south America, most of Africa and the Middle East .... its not our job to police the world and enforce our beliefs on all those people. THE PEOPLE of the places need to rise up and change their homelands.

Many nations in the world hate us - because of trying to do exactly what you're asking

A bit of compassion can go a long way, my friend, but you have to give it a shot. Be like the Good Samaritan, not like the callous priest and Levite.

I'm very compassionate - to my family first, then friends, then my state and nation and fellow citizens. People breaking the law and coming to the USA illegally isn't acceptable.

But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" 30 Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" 37 He said, "The one who showed him mercy." And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise."

we do that and have as a nation for a very very long time - we are THE most generous nation in the world on immigration

people abusing it has to stop AND we can have a secure border AND be compassionate and generous on immigration as well

I corrected you on what YOU believe to be the core problem. You're strawman argument is pathetic.
Btw, I did my tour in Vietnam and saw close up how it worked. You?
I'm very compassionate - to my family first, then friends, then my state and nation and fellow citizens. People breaking the law and coming to the USA illegally isn't acceptable.
You are not compassionate in your postings. Not sure you grasp the meaning of the word.

Buddhism and Compassion

"According to Buddhism, compassion is an aspiration, a state of mind, wanting others to be free from suffering. It's not passive — it's not empathy alone — but rather an empathetic altruism that actively strives to free others from suffering. Genuine compassion must have both wisdom and lovingkindness. That is to say, one must understand the nature of the suffering from which we wish to free others (this is wisdom), and one must experience deep intimacy and empathy with other sentient beings (this is lovingkindness)." Dalai Lama
we do that and have as a nation for a very very long time - we are THE most generous nation in the world on immigration
Bull, Prove it.
people abusing it has to stop AND we can have a secure border AND be compassionate and generous on immigration as well
Your premise, bolded above, is a false generalization. Because some may abuse the system does not mean that the many are. As far as being compassionate and generous perhaps you should read up on that as well.

ABUSE OF POWER AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

Cruel and unaccountable border agents have patrolled the border since the 1920s. When the Border Patrol was created in 1924, white supremacists entered the agency, building the culture of xenophobia and impunity that exists to this day. They built a culture of corruption as well — CBP agents are arrested for criminal activity and corruption at a per-capita rate that exceeds any other federal agency.

Even with a legacy of violence and hate, the Border Patrol as we know it today wouldn’t exist until the 1990s, when policies like Operation Gatekeeper would over-inflate the agency’s budget, and give them carte blanche to fully militarize the southern border.
Snap 2023-10-01 at 07.48.29.webp

Because of these dangerous enforcement-only policies and culture of impunity, 283 people have died as a result of an encounter with Customs and Border Protection agents since 2010. CBP’s culture of abuse and reckless use of force has led to the deaths of many U.S. citizens and noncitizens both at U.S. ports of entry and in the southern border region. A majority of victims are killed in fatal shootings, while a significant number have died as a result of reckless car chases, untreated medical issues and potential neglect, or other forms of violence.

Beginning with the horrific killing of Anastasio Hernandez Rojas in 2010, SBCC has tracked deaths of U.S. citizens and noncitizens in the southern and northern border region, through analyses of media coverage and official Customs and Border Protection communications. These tragic losses of life represent only a fraction of those lost to border militarization, as they do not include those disappeared in the harsh and deadly wilderness by the wasteful border wall and violent agents, nor do they include those impacted by border agents deployed to other parts of the country.

An excellent question.... Why IS the state of Texas deliberately creating a hazard for CHILDREN?
The adult migrants are the ones making their children walk through it. Why dont you ask them?

I corrected you on what YOU believe to be the core problem. You're strawman argument is pathetic.

its not strawman - its simple facts. We, the USA, especially our citizens living today, did NOT create the crap hole countries that are in central and south American and other places in the world.

Btw, I did my tour in Vietnam and saw close up how it worked. You?

Thank you for your service. I have long regretted not joining military. That said, our "country building" has failed, over and over.

You are not compassionate in your postings. Not sure you grasp the meaning of the word.

I call it realism.

We cannot absorb 3 billion people here in the USA, which is how many we'd have to allow in to help solve the worlds problems. We can't conquer every country and make it like ours. We cannot spend hundreds of trillions in dollars to fix the worlds problems either

I believe in fixing our own problems before venturing out and trying to solve everyone else's

Bull, Prove it.

c'mon man

compare how much money we give in nation building (which you support, right?) and how many people legally come to the USA every year and how many illegals we allow to live here illegally etc etc .... we have a porous southern border, hell we're to the point now that in many places with high illegal populations, everything's in Spanish and US citizens feel like the outcasts :(

Your premise, bolded above, is a false generalization. Because some may abuse the system does not mean that the many are. As far as being compassionate and generous perhaps you should read up on that as well.

when you know its illegal to do something (like enter a country illegally) and do it anyway because you know you can get away with it

yes, that's abusing a system and the loopholes to do it have been announced far and wide by liberals and so here we are, tens of millions of illegally here people living here illegally

why even have citizenship anymore ? what's the point ?

"....crawling through the sharp coils of wire to get a shot at claiming asylum in the US."
Why didn't their parents just take them to a border crossing where they could have made their asylum claim without injuring their children?
Exactly. But this is reported by the NY Post, so they've got to make it sound as outrageous as possible ("as spikes from the wire stick into their flesh"). Apparently they have no legitimate asylum claim, so they're just trying to get in illegally.

The southern border has been a serious problem for decades. Why doesn't Congress come up with something? A president is limited in what he can do (as demonstrated even by Trump). Congress holds the purse strings.

its not strawman - its simple facts. We, the USA, especially our citizens living today, did NOT create the crap hole countries that are in central and south American and other places in the world.
Your simple facts don't bear up to scrutiny. History of U.S. Interventions in Latin America

Crap hole countries - that would apply to the US in regards to the Bible Belt states no? ;)

Thank you for your service. I have long regretted not joining military. That said, our "country building" has failed, over and over.
Our country building failed and it's not our fault that American imperialism has led to the conditions facing the human populations south of the border? Get thee to an actual political science classroom.
I call it realism.
I call it a lack of empathy and compassion..

Great, start with poverty and the wealth gap in this country.

Making up your opponent's position in order to feel better about your own does nothing to enhance your credibility. Sorry you feel like an outcast in your own country but it comes across as simple xenophobia on your part.

DJT is a perfect example of that. Are you calling for his incarceration?
yes, that's abusing a system and the loopholes to do it have been announced far and wide by liberals and so here we are, tens of millions of illegally here people living here illegally
No one is living here illegally, they are our guests, perhaps you just don't see them as fellow human beings trying to escape a life of suffering. https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights

countries are responsible for themselves - but if you REALLY want to blame the USA then you should be in favor of us overthrowing (with military might) Mexico, Guatemala, DR/Haiti, El Salvador etc ........ conquer them, install our ways of life/liberty etc and there, problem solved. Nobody there would have to come to America- we're taking American to them, right ?

but you'd have to completely conquer - not half do it

I call it a lack of empathy and compassion..

Can't, or don't want to?

NYC can't handle 50,000 illegals - you think it can handle 4 million ? no, USA absolutely CANNOT absorb the worlds uneducated, unskilled, poor and suffering people.

Great, start with poverty and the wealth gap in this country.

why don't we? check how much money was spent sending to all the other countries in the world while 1 in 6 kids go hungry in the USA. Tell me about compassion and empathy again ?

^no problem
But the cartels RULE Mexico, it's basically a narco-state with citywide shootouts of cartels and Mexican police

What has to be done is to secure the border. It's a revenue machine for the cartels.
I've seen estimate from human smuggling and narco trafficing of a $1 million a day.

And the cartels also operate further south. $40 to get thru the Darién Gap
Thy also operate grow houses and pay US citizens to drive migrants on this side of the border
Why do you spread these lies?

lol the problem is not just in Mexico,, all those migrants are cash cows for cartels.
Get rid of 10,000 nigrants crossing a day, you de-incentivize the whole system of too many migrants to take care of here and too many migrants paying cartels there
The migrants are a cash cow for the cartels.

Are these the same migrants that have no money and just want to cross the border to better their familes?

And razor wire addresses this problem in what way? This is nothing more than state sanctioned abuse of these kids.. They are ALREADY IN THE UNITED STATES...
You are blaming the razor wire for this?

If one were to take this nonsense seriously, there can be no barrier along vast swaths of the border. A fence cannot be built in Mexico because it's not our territory, but if it's built in the US then even the tiniest sliver of US soil on the other side means illegal crossers are "ALREADY IN THE UNITED STATES."

It's a deterrent. Some amount of people won't cross illegally because of the likelihood of injury. The fact that the wire is there doesn't mean the US is abusing these kids. It's their parents who are doing that by smuggling them across the border. Your position is mandatory open borders.

Pure, unadulterated idiocy.

2019 had a higher number of crossings than during any time of the Obama administration. Covid is the reason it went down after 2019.

Why was Trump causing more people to rush the border than President DACA?

Maybe the problem isn't inside the US, and there is very little a president can do with our current law.

It was better under Obama than it was under Bush. Obama has done a better job with immigration than any modern president.
Do you really define "fewer border crossings" as "better"? Really?
