Most of the Mexican drug cartel guns come from the US. Many of those guns are bought legally in the US by cartel agents, without any background checks. Some sources say that as many as 90 percent of all cartel guns come from US gun dealers.

I know the NRA loves to say how guns keep the US safe. First off, they don't. Second off, the gun culture in the US has lead to over 100,000 deaths in Mexico.

Common sense gun control will not only save lives in the US, but in Mexico as well.

In the meantime, Mexico has a very solid legal case to pummel the NRA with, and hopefully the world gets to see Wayne Lapierre plead responsible for the bloodshed in Mexico, and the NRA disbanded.

It's awesome that the people pulling the trigger apparently have no responsibility for their actions in your world. And how does one legally purchase a firearm from a dealer in the US without a background check?

First, Mexican drug / bandit culture (continuosly glorified by narco corridos and the popular acclaim of Drug Lords as folk heros) is responsible for over 100,000 deaths in Mexico. Likewise, Mexicans (or Mexican Americans) arm Mexican criminal gangs with illegally purchased weapons- not the NRA.

Second, International courts have no juridiction in the USA and their rulings regarding payment are meaningless.

The gun show loophole, where gun show purchases do not require a background check.

Its where the cartels, bloods/ crips, and MS13 get their guns

It is not the "gun show" loophole.

Rather, it is a loophole allowing incidental private sellers (yes, "incidental" is broadly defined) to sell with out performing background checks. Such sales could be neighbor to neighbor, or at gun shows. As a side note, most sellers at gun shows hold FFLs and must perform background checks.

Don't be silly. If there is a case, it is to legalize drugs.

Meanwhile, back in reality...

Mexico has no grounds upon which to sue the NRA, which is not a manufacturer or vendor of firearms; it is an organization which advocates policy and while it may morally be responsible for the policies it advocates, it is certainly not legally responsible for them. Second, the USA-- the United States government-- has not supplied illegal weapons to the Mexican drug cartels, and cannot be held responsible for Mexican citizens breaking Mexican law, whether they are on Mexican or American soil. The United States government is not responsible for enforcing Mexican law, period.

So because Mexico fails within their own government, it was admitted many of the guns were legally applied for and obtained by the government and it was those government officials that switched sides to the cartels and took those guns with them, it is our problem?

That's nothing more than political rhetoric:

IOWs a suit would be futile.

You didn't eve read the article you linked to, did you? The article specifically cites a program sanctioned by the US State Department where guns are sold to Mexican governmental entities (such as the police and military). From there they talk about the 150k Mexican cops and military that have switched sides and gone to work for the cartels. The "gun show loophole" crap is just that, crap. Why would the cartels waste all kinds of time and effort to buy one or two guns at a time when they can have a truckload of them delivered to the local police station and pick them up there?

-edit-

My bad. I didn't realize that you were a Manhattan socialist. My expectation that you would have actually known about that which you posted was misplaced and for that I apologize.

You have not adequately explained the legal grounds for an international case against the US and the NRA.

If anything the US should legalize the very products that keep the Mexican Drug Cartels in business (that will kill the business model,) then Mexico should clean up their own backyard (which includes all the local law enforcement corruption and inaction by their own authorities to go after their own problems.)

The NRA fights tooth and nail (and moneybag) to keep the gun show loophole open

The US government has bowed to NRA dollars and lets guns be bought without a background check at gun shows

Cartel members use this loophole to buy high powered automatic assault rifles in the US, and ship them back to Mexico

A very strong legal case could be made that the NRA and the US government are negligently causing the deaths of 100,000 Mexican citizens

There is no loophole.

You can keep saying this over and over again, but that does not make this somehow all of a sudden true. In the courts you need to explain a few things, just saying the above does not make the case.

This beat down is going about as expected.

And millions of automatic Ak 47's and AR 15's bought at gun shows in Texas

Do you think that if the US completely cut off the border tomorrow with Mexico no longer allowing anything either way across the border....that Mexican Cartels with a ton of money wouldn't be able to acquire weapons from other sources? They would pay some dock official and have that stuff shipped from China.

Which is why all the countries next to China are so dangerous and crime ridden due to Chinese guns, right?

Oh wait. China has sane gun laws, and therefore manages to avoid destabilizing itself and its neighbors, unlike the USA

And I'm not saying we cut off the border with Mexico. I'm saying we end the gun show loophole, and pass an assault weapons ban to add another layer of security
