Mexico refuses to accept a U.S. deportation flight (1 Viewer)

It sounds to me that perhaps Trump, in his zeal to make a splash, is not following international protocols for deportation. Just like last time he is taking knee jerk actions he has to later walk back.

They aren't refusing to take the deportees, they are refusing acceptance of them in US military aircraft.
Mexico refused the military aircraft flight to force ICE to hire the four chartered flights that landed instead. Homan has spent most of this week hollering at Congress that he doesn't have the funding to do the mass deportation. Mexico is exploiting this by refusing to clear military flights that Homan doesn't have to pay for.

Guatemala has accepted three flights, two military aircraft and one commercial chartered by ICE.

Homan has a desperate need to use military planes rather than charter commercial flights that are shredding his tight budget for a mass deportation. While the military has absolutely refused to do the deportation it has concurred to make some military transport aircraft available. This is while the military has been using 8 C-130 transport planes to bomb the massive fires in California with fire retardant solutions. Most military deportation flights are on the smaller C-17s.

There's a scheduled huge turnover rotation of US forces abroad coming in the spring so the Pentagon will need all its transport planes that will need to be tuned up and ready to go at that time as large numbers of troops will come and go globally. Homan is shatting his pants that the mass deportation is going to go over a cliff.

Call me sceptical, but I highly doubt Mexico and the nations of Central America are going to simply roll-over and accept millions of undocumented Trump deportees.

At least not without significant US increases in foreign aid to the affected countries.
Refusal to accept these flights is a blatant act of war. Trump is assembling his forces on the southern border to begin the defense of the nation. Soon Mexico is going to find out what a high price they will pay for their outrageous behavior in this matter. When our tank columns and paratroopers begin the liberation they will know. How dare they defy Trump!

Don't give the righties ideas...

Has everyone already forgotten that Mexico refusing to accept a U.S. deportation flight was an issue with paperwork, soon to be straightened out.
Mexico wants civilian paperwork not military paperwork.

Same for Columbia -- civilian planes and ICE personnel, not USAF and military personnel to include security personnel in their airports.

The president of Honduras is threatening to expel the vital US military presence that is central to drug interdiction in Central America led by the Joint Bravo Team that is secretive and swift.

This is getting Very Trumpy Messy.

Homan has said for a long time he's not budgeted to charter commercial planes and that military aircraft are a must. "Must" rhymes with "bust" don't we know. I'd also note emphatically these are your guys not mine.

It's funny how things work. These military flights cost the taxpayers much more than civilian flights, but since the military craft come out of a different budget, all is well (internally).

I agree with this president's statement here.
An ICE Charter flight is 10 times cheaper than a military flight.
Homan has to pay for chartered flights out of the measly ICE and deportation budget which he says he can't do.

Which is why Homan has said for months military flights are critical to the final step of the deportation which is to fly deportees to their countries. Homan does not have to pay for military flights -- it's not his problem. He gets 'em for free.

Homan has been hollering at Congress he needs huge amounts more of money, that his budget can't sustain rolling commercially chartered flights throughout a mass deportation. Indeed, Homan can't pay for the flights now that are supported and sustained by the military aircraft instead.

Congress is going to have to face up to an astronomical bill to pay or the whole mass deportation is going to go bust.

Semantics. They are refusing the US Gov't as they see an opportunity to get something out of this.
I think it's much more complicated than that. You can't just load people on a plane and ship them somewhere. Coordination between countries is critical. The receiving country needs to understand the arrival time, the numbers and the identification of each deportee as well as any criminal behavior within the US. In Trump's zeal to move them out It doesn't appear that was all done in advance. I'm certain that a process will be worked out to ensure smooth transfers. It seems to me Homan should have established procedures with these countries in advance.

Just FYI, the C-17 Globemaster is bigger than the C-130 Hercules.

It is indeed eh.

Homan doesn't have to pay a dime for a military flight which is all that matters to him on his poor man's budget that can't sustain paying for chartered flights over months if not the entire year. Homan is hollering at Congress for much more in funding that Congress doesn't want to get into given cost estimates of a mass deportation are astronomical -- and everyone knows cost estimates come in on the low side in contrast to the final bill.

Neither can the military keep providing its big cargo transport planes for deportation tasks. These are activated Air National Guard planes that fly for a couple of hours on weekends whereas these multi hour round trip flights each week consume more budget and personnel expenses than a NG weekend does once a month. Plus with a massive force rotation to and from US bases globally scheduled for the spring the Pentagon needs every NG Air Wing, pilot and mechanic it has.

Budgets high and low are being blown up right now as we speak.

If he did that, we wouldn’t have threads like this:

I’m told “additional retaliatory measures will be rolled out soon.”

Per senior administration official: “This is a clear message we are sending that countries have an obligation to accept repatriation flights.”

SO much for the art of the deal...again.

They've got their panties in a bunch because we took the name of their gulf. It was the only thing they had going for them.

I'm aware from past meaningless conversations.
Baiting/Trolling isn't going to help

Did I do it right? 🤣

This is what they call FAFO.

I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people. Petro’s denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States, so I have directed my Administration to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures:
-Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
-A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
-Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.
-Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds.
-IEEPA Treasury, Banking and Financial Sanctions to be fully imposed.
These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!
btw, if Columbia was getting any aid money from the US...that ended yesterday.

Now Columbia has refused so Trump slapped 50% tariffs on their products and won't the state dept issue visas.

Anyone remember the Star Trek episode "Turnabout Intruder" where Captain Kirk's INSANE ex-lover Dr. Janice Lester forcibly switches bodies with him in order to take command of the Enterprise? Trump reminds me of Janice Lester. William Shatner gives a pitch-perfect imitation of Trump below:

shrug...

Columbia might agree with you, but that doesn't change the fact that Trump is, right now, slapping them upside the head.

We'll see how much of that Columbia can take before they fold like a cheap suit.
