This has been a contentious topic for a while now. Sorry if it's already been polled.

I have to admit that I don't pay much attention to it. To family and friends, I tend to say Merry Christmas, and to strangers, I usually just respond to what they say.

Businesses have been slammed for saying Happy Holidays, but jeez, holiday is an abberation of holy day. Is it really that big of a deal? It's simply a recognition of the diversity of holy days celebrated this time of year.

Beats the heck out of me why it is contentious. I use both, I don't over think it. Mostly I say Merry Christmas but sometimes Happy Holidays seems more appropriate

Happy holidays FTMFW. I live in Kansas. It drives the rednecks nuts!

I say Merry Christmas, unless I know the person is Jewish, and then I will say Happy Hanukkah.

If they aren't either Christian or Jewish, I really don't care what they think about my friendly greeting. Those people can be mad as much as they choose to be.

That's the Christmas spirit.

Whatever happened to "Season's Greetings" ?:p

Where I live I use "Felices Fiestas" and that can be applied thruout the year and mean anything, including a three or more day drunk binge.

I mostly say Happy Holidays. 1 out of 3 people in the US aren't even Christian and my guess is that percentage is even higher in places like where I live, where 30% of the population is Asian. So, Happy Holidays seems appropriate.

That said, I'll reply Merry Christmas to anyone who greets me with the same. If I know someone is Christian and it's important to them, I'll offer a Merry Christmas then as well, but I won't assume it to be the case for someone I don't know.

It is not a big deal. People with small minds like to argue it and act like it's important. Get a life out there.

"Happy Holidays" because most people take it in the spirit it was intended, but that fact that it pisses some right wing assholes makes my day.

I say Merry Christmas if I know they're Christian, Happy Holidays if I don't.

Depends on if I know the person.

I don't understand the contention with this as well. I tend to say Merry Christmas I've never heard anybody get offended by that. If someone breaks out the happy holidays before I say Merry Christmas I will just instinctively say happy holidays back to them.

I don't get why this is a big deal when people say happy holidays around this time of year I take that to mean the same thing as Merry Christmas. I know a couple of Jewish people that say Merry Christmas and they don't celebrate Hanukkah but they celebrate Christmas.

To me it seems the idea that they want to keep it a proprietary thing that Christmas is just for Christians and that's not the case. It is a Christian holiday but it does have cultural significance as well so it's okay if people that don't believe in Christ or God celebrate it I don't know why that's the problem for some people.

It's not erasing Christ and it's not some War on Christmas if anything Christmas won the war because secular people and Jewish people are celebrating Christmas.

I can't figure out why people care so much about this. I remember that guy I think his name was something stine but raise 10 shades of hell about Starbucks and their Christmas cups not being christmasy enough for him. It seems like a stupid Hill to die on but then again I've seen stranger.

I'm not offended by either unless the Happy Holiday is because you aren't allowed to use Merry Christmas. If it's not that big a deal, let me scream Merry Christmas!

I say Merry Christmas. If people don't like it... tough.

You'll get "Happy Kwanza" and you'll like it.
Please stop posting. Seriously.
My ribs are starting to hurt.
I had to clean Key Lime Pie ice cream off the iPhone XR.
Please stop.

"Merry Christmas" to those I know who are Christians; "Happy Holidays" for those who are not Christians or of unknown faith; "Happy Solstice" to those who I know are atheists or avid gardeners.

I have a Jewish/Muslim friends and colleagues. I can't imagine being such an asshole.
Merry Christmas is a positive expression. My friends know that when I say Merry Christmas, I mean it in a positive way. I have a Jewish friend too, and because he knows me and the meaning behind MY expression of "Merry Christmas", he knows that I am not being an asshole, and therefore is not offended. Intent matters. If anyone is offended my expression of "Merry Christmas", that is not my problem. I mean no ill will towards anyone when I say that. If people do not understand that... again... tough. If you are offended by MY expression of positive goodwill, then you need to put on your big girl panties, and go to better schooling so you can learn that Everyone is different. When that Jewish friend of mine says "Happy Hanukkah", to me, I know that he means nothing but positive things, and vice versa.

some Baptist preacher somewhere told his congregation that it was a shame eliminating Christ from Christmas and should be argued about ..... fundamentalist Christians like to argue and press their agenda......here we are
