Do western countries allow Media Tycoons, that is owners of large and influencial media such as Rupert Murdoch to be their politicians and even presidents at the same time? And why?

I am from asia and would like to know abit about NA politics.

I don't know if a media tycoon has ever run at the national level. Bloomberg could possibly qualify, but he's not really on par with what I expect Murdoch is. (Maybe I'm mistaken). As far as "allowing", there's no legal restrictions that I am aware of as long as they meet constitutional requirements.
