it was reported it was a .308 and a 30-06 .... it wasn't both
the pictures rifle is a newer synthetic stocked bolt action rifle in a pretty clean cardboard box like they're shipping in
the guy didn't jump off the roof with the rifle - that is pretty clear I think
now, what is being sold by media is that its a WW1 era Mauser likely untraceable without serial numbers and we have no idea how he acquired it/used it other than it was his Grandfathers. COULD someone have taken an old Mauser actioned rifle and replaced it with a synthetic stock etc? Its possible - its very much NOT probable
I think the serial number business was some journalist rattling on about something of which he had only a dim awareness and others picked it up and ran with it because of their own ignorance. The same with .308 vs .30-06. They get confused on caliber vs cartridge quite often.
