Here is where we are going into the (now) early December debt ceiling problem. It will be a most interesting couple months within the Dem party; legislation (both the infrastructure and the social spending bill) and the early December debt ceiling and stopgap government funding bill.

Four years ago, Republicans in Congress created a bunch of debt with their tax cuts for the wealthy.

Now they don't want to pay for them.

What hypocrites. 🖕

I hope there's a method to McConnell's madness here.

Oh, so the GOP will wait until the holiday season to tear America's credit rating form AAA down to DDD and blow up the entire world's financial system and economy in one fell swoop, all to "own the libs"? Well isn't that gracious.

They're a terrorist party these days.

What, you need violence for political ends to be a terrorist? Hello 1/6 insurrection, widely supported by traitor scum.

Who gives a shit, other than those who say what they are commanded to say? Everyone knows it's on the GOP, who had no problem raising it three times to fund Trump's trillions, including his tax cut that'll cost $10,000,000,000,000+ every 10 years.

Nobody is fooled. Not even you. Absent condemnation of McConnell and the GOP, you're just lying on command. This hasn't anything to do with the Dems. It's just what the GOP does since a black man was president: hold America and the rest of the world hostage....just to scare it. Like an abuser raising his hand but not quite swinging.

Whereas this guy over here is mad that the world economy might exist for a few more months.

Only in the good ole U.S. of A. meanwhile here in Canada where we have sanity.........

I agree. Many Republicans in Congress are furious with him for assisting with this extension yesterday. I'm not (yet). I think there is likely a method to his madness and I'm quite happy to see this letter today. If he doesn't hold completely firm in December, I will absolutely join the furious group. But, I'm quite convinced he will not budge in December.

Whoa - now that's seriously weird.

McConnell and Republicans told Schumer and Democrats that they would not vote for a blank check over the summer and Democrats needed to pass the debt ceiling via reconcilation. Schumer played a game of chicken to save his party an embarrassing vote. He claims the process is too complicated or something and would take too long (after he waited until the final hour).

Democrats going through reconciliation would require them to set a new specific debt limit which will provide an indicator of how much they can spend on their "infrastructure" bill. Democrats want Republicans to help them pass an extension to our national debt without setting a limit freeing them from the embarrassing vote that would hurt them in the next election.

Both sides are being stupid. This extension gives Schumer all the time he claimed he needed to push it through reconciliation, but he likely still won't to protect his party. Come December when we are at this crisis point again he'll act surprised they don't have Republican votes for a blank check, nor will he agree to a bipartisan debt ceiling limit.

This post is emotionally unhinged nonsense that is beyond ridiculous.

If the US defaults, most of you won't like it a "oh shit, wait, no" sorta way.
There is absolutely no reason for that. Dems now have PLENTY of time, are well aware of the situation, and have the legislative control/power to handle it easily in the next two months.

Why does your party not believe in paying the debts that your party created?

They had plenty of time and were well aware of the situation this time around as well. Schumer doesn't care because he knows he has the upper hand. There is no way the Republicans don't get the blame if they don't pass extensions and let us default. Republicans have more to lose in this game of chicken and it's pretty stupid at this point.

And they would deserve every bit of it. What kind of political party creates debt and then won't pay for it?? The Republicans, that's who.

Yep, and even the bipartisan Senate passed infrastructure bill might not come to fruition if the Dem moderates and progressives can't reach agreement.

There's a difference between not paying for debt and completely waiving the debt limit to go on spending sprees. Have Senate Democrats even proposed an actual debt ceiling limit or do they just want Republicans to give a blank check while they act like teenagers with a stolen credit card?

Your party jacked up the deficit with the tax cuts for the rich. Now your party doesn't want to pay for them. Very trumpian.

So your hope is that there is no progress on infrastructure, which is greatly needed and very popular with Americans, so that McConnell can play out a scenario in December that makes you feel good?

And America will default on it's debts. With all the dire consequences.

What exactly would you like to see done about our debt? Y'all are literally prepared to tank the country over money not even spent yet by refusing to pay what we already owe.

Put that in TV drama form. "Dammit honey, you can't buy another mink. I'm gonna **** our credit all to hell so you can't borrow more money."

I completely disagree about Republicans having more to lose!
Dems have all the control but they are tanking at present in literally every way, beyond mere incompetence! I think blame will land squarely on their shoulders. Not in the eyes of Dems, of course, but the rest of the country (including Independents) have NO confidence in ANYTHING Biden/Biden administration/Dems in Congress, right now. The Dem party is a blowing up mess currently, and they could make that much, much worse in the next couple months - including if they pass this absurd social spending bill at just the wrong time in just the wrong economy.

This is the kind of self delusion that has you people getting high on your own supply. Do you think others can't see you?

Dems never get the blame. They want to pass a limit.
