"Kevin McCarthy edged back from the brink of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Tuesday, less than a day after suggesting his party was close to announcing one.

The speaker set off a Washington kerfuffle Monday night when he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he believed the House GOP’s investigations into Hunter Biden’s business dealings were “rising to the level of [an] impeachment inquiry,” presumably into his father.

But during lengthy Tuesday question-and-answer sessions with reporters, McCarthy said his televised remarks were not meant as an announcement of any new steps. Instead, the California Republican clarified that the myriad of allegations he is seeing from Republicans’ investigations “could” eventually merit an impeachment inquiry."

It's simple: feed the Fox News viewers what they want to hear and tell the world something else.

The threat is now that there could be an impeachment proceeding because of allegations the GOP made that don't have the barest-ass justification (an email confirmed Hunter said Joe "met with" someone! OMG!), all in revenge (we're told) for the investigation under Trump sparked by Rosenstein of Trump under Trump. That investigation yielded a report from someone (Mueller) who said he considered it a violation of his mandate to recommend charges and which cleared Trump only of criminal conspiracy (note not "collusion", because there's no statute for that) because of lack of proof beyond a reasonable doubt of the element of explicit agreement but laid out clear proof (Biden DOJ declined to use, btw, given optics I guess but who knows) of obstruction on 11+ counts...

....really? Trump wasn't impeached for that. He was impeached for unlawfully threatening to withhold military aid to Ukraine (see what happened?) unless they announced sham investigations into Hunter. He was impeached for aiming a crowd at the Capitol, which was fine because somewhere in several hours he said "go peacefully".

Impeach or not. Whatever. Those clowns lost their cred. They're preaching to a shrinking choir. And although their base insists the FBI/DOJ are so corrupt they're just tools, the insistence is idiotic. If they're tools, then Trump's DOJ/FBI should have taken 'em all down. If they're not, then their actions are not motivated by politics and that's why no one was taken down.

If anything, I'm angry simply that it's still a thing. That people are this stupid. This tribal. This dishonest.

The stupidest bit is that if Biden did everything Trump did, it's 1% of it. The even stupider bit is that if we apply the standard of proof Trumpists use for Biden and apply it to Trump, Biden did 0.00001% of it. (I mean, two ****ing billion for Kushner's firm from the Saudis and that's "meh"? Really? From people who care about about corruption? Right).

So if they're gonna make Trump the nominee, the answer is clear. Unless you're one of those people who'd let the country burn to the ground to prove that they're above-it-all and against-the-system.

Let 'em impeach Biden. I'm increasingly of the less-depressive view (as compared to what I had) that enough people see through the bullshit, see Biden's faults for what they are, but then see the vast menace he's almost certain to be poised against....and then choose to put the greater public good over their own view of the purity of their souls. And vote Biden in the general, even if they vote for someone else in the primaries.

Go for it, McCarthy. Open the door to all the facts and ensure your slim majority is eliminated in 2024. Try governing. You have the very real prospect of a government shutdown this Fall and a defense spending bill heading to conference.....you know....the real stuff governments are suppose to do.

I am not so sure McCarthy is capable of being a useful player in any actual policy or negotiation. I think he might be a complete moron. He has no academic or career accomplishments at all. And have you ever seen him try to talk? It's painful.

"Could" and "eventually". It doesn't sound like he's convinced unlike others who think there's enough with what they've presented thus far. It's likely he'll be on the same page as the former administration's DOJ and the GOP committee that investigated this during that time as well. I suspect he knows if they try and impeach with a bunch of hearsay and dodgy documents, they'll look like idiots. So we shall see how he assesses what else comes out during the investigation.

The last thing the GOP want right now is to burn up all their Biden conspiracy theories and invented stories by taking them before a judge or court where they have to have their 'evidence' examined and cross examined by legal experts. Too far out from the election yet to burn up all those potentially misleading stories about Biden being dishonest etc.

We have to understand how desperate the Republicans are getting now. Look at things from their POV. Unemployment is at record lows. Biden passes his Inflation Reduction Act that they moaned about, but inflation is all but tamed now. Biden passes clean energy legislation promising jobs as well as cleaner energy, and now the public are seeing that the jobs are really happening and energy is getting cleaner. Biden passes infrastructure legislation that Republicans have been talking about but not achieving for years. Suddenly people see their local infrastructure improving after years of underinvestment. Gas prices are back to normal levels. The markets are still climbing well. Consumer confidence is growing. Wages are now growing faster than inflation. Republicans have screwed themselves politically with the abortion rulings in key states. The conservative SCOTUS has had some of the worst claims of 'corruption' that most people can remember. Key maga representatives regularly get publicly owned by their Democrat rivals in committees, and makes fools of themselves by either being dumb or unprepared. Their key man Trump is facing ever growing legal issues that are affecting his electability, especially when his only responses are a continuous stream of unhinged narcissism and embarrassingly failed court filings. Their number 2 guy RdS has gone all extreme 'crazy Christian' and made himself virtually unelectable for president. Every other candidate barely rates, but there are enough of them to ensure that Trump probably gets the nomination because of the voter spread. But they already know that in a strong economy Trump will likely lose to Biden yet again. They can hope that Trump gets jailed and can't reasonably be an option, but with RdS already a horrible failure they won't have enough time to raise the profile of anyone else unless they start doing that directly against Trump right now.

The bottom line is that despite everything the Republicans are saying, Biden and his team are mostly doing a much better job than they would like him to be doing. Republicans of course will continue to try and find ways to damage the economy or damage Bidens deliverables prior to the elections, but the real problem is that everything important they were attacking him on are getting fixed. Inflation, gas prices, employment, wages etc. So Republicans are now back to what they so often do and focussing on creating personal attacks and stories that they never want to have to actually prove. It's really disappointing to how clueless the GOP has become since they let the maga takeover happen.

He fed those Fox News rubes some red meat. Every right-wing thread on page 1 is about the Bidens.

Was Hannity interviewing McCarthy at the Capitol?
That's where Biden was when he was making the impeachment remarks making so much news today.
If he was also on with Hannity last night (I wasn't aware of that), he certainly didn't back away from it when speaking at the Capitol.

In addition to the impeachment talk today, Bret Baier did quite an interesting segment on Mackler. I expect we'll be hearing more and more about him in upcoming days.

"A longtime friend and ally of Hunter Biden and the Biden family served as a prosecutor in the Delaware U.S. Attorney's office when that office led the federal investigation into Hunter Biden and has visited the White House at least five times during the Biden administration, a Fox News Digital investigation has found.

Alexander Snyder-Mackler, a former legal counsel to Joe Biden when he was vice president and a press secretary for then-Sen. Biden between 2007 and 2008, served as an assistant United States attorney in the Delaware U.S. Attorney's office under David Weiss from August 2016 to May 2019. During that time, Weiss was leading the federal investigation into Hunter Biden for tax fraud and illegal foreign business dealings.

According to emails from Hunter’s abandoned laptop, which were reviewed and verified by Fox News Digital, Mackler and Hunter Biden remained in close contact, with Mackler once signing off an email saying, "Love you brother." "

Any chance you live in that district? you know, you could probably pull it off 😊

No, & nope, I appreciate my privacy too much. But thanks for the kind words. 🙂

Plus I never liked the idea of begging for $ for a living.

Yes he did. The quotes are posted. Good grief, read the material before commenting.

The Central Valley is decidedly Republican.
