McCain calls Obama "that one"

I didn't think anything of it. Didn't even notice it. I gave a very detailed commentary and I would never even have thought to point this out.

I don't get? What's the big deal?

"That one!" So??

It's better than what I call him, "douchebag."

How great would it be if they called each other bad names? If McCain had said, "That little bitch right there!" instead of that one.

I would love that. I have a thing for potty mouth.

But yeah, "That one, " who cares?

Is "that one" now a racist expression too? :rofl
 


I wouldn't go so far as to say it was "racist", but it was certainly rude and condescending and I think the country will be talking about it...and I think McCain will regret saying it.

Obama made his attacks but was respectful. McCain came across as vindictive, hateful and then when he made this comment, I think it really showed his true colors. This could be a major blunder by McCain. If he can't even show the slightest respect for his adversary, how can he claim to sit down and reach across the aisle. Bad move for McCain.
 

Oh please Obama is a big boy! He can handle it. It wasn't a big deal in my opinion. And it's not like Obama is ever going to reach across the aisle. Sure he'll move to the right of his hoard of Chicago radicals but he won't ever get to center let alone reaching across the aisle. He probably couldn't even find the aisle.

I think it's just an expression old people use.
I've heard them say it before.
 
I found the comment more funny than anything. McCain is certainly not hiding his distaste and contempt for Obama. In a lot of McCain's responses to the audience about his own personal policy, he sounded calm but when he started to talk about differences with Obama he would kind of talk through his teeth with disgust. Obama's only real responses to McCain's jabs was to smile and lightly chuckle to himself calmly. I think that mannerisms like these are going to have a significant affect on voters. I'm now quite eager to see the final debate.
 

You might not think so....and maybe you are right. When he said that, my reaction was pretty strong ...and I suspect that a number of people had the same reaction that I had.

Of course, I didn't see the look or hear the tone in which it was delivered.
But I can pretty well imagine it. It's something I've heard old people say a lot.
They refer to others as "this one" or "that one over there" or whatever.

It sounded awkward more than condecending, and it wasn't racist by any stretch of imagination

I think approximately 10k posters on DailyKos will be talking about it for about 16 hours before it fades into oblivion.
 

I wouldn't say it's racist. But I definitely cringed when I heard it. It sounded dismissive, condescending, and flat-out mean. With that said, I promptly forgot about it until the pundits brought it up again after the debate.

Best OWNAGE in the whole debate:

McCain talking about his hero Teddy Roosevelt, and saying how a President should talk softly can carry a big stick. All Obama had to do was say, Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Iran.

I particularly liked when McCain took the time to explain to Obama that it was a joke and that he didn't actually mean it. IMO, it made Obama look petty.

McCain didn't address the other remarks Obama made, like:

Next stop, Baghdad!

I forgot what the other one was, I think it was referring to N. Korea.
 
It was definitely condescending. It shows how little respect McCain has for Obama.
 
What's wrong with saying "that one"? If I were McCain I'd have said "that idiot" and really give you melodramatic Liberals something to complain about. ESPECIALLY after having to sit through the lies and misrepresentations that Obama was spewing.

Ugh, Liberals get more and more annoyingly petty as the days go by...:roll:
 

It's condescending, which shows lack of respect, which is unprofessional.
