Maybe we actually do something this time?

The only flaw with that argument is that the "honest people" excuse is wearing thin when on any given day one of those so-called honest people can go berserk and start shooting bullets into a crowd at a rate of 500 rounds a minute.

That 500 rounds per minute is entirely theoretical, based upon the cyclic action of the weapon. It is 100% theory, not reality.

In reality, at around 500 rounds even at a fraction of that speed, the rifle is going to start having issues. Action slowing down because of carbon fouling, and rounds cooking off. And shortly after that, the weapon is going to start to destroy itself.

Do not believe me"

And he is firing at only around 100 rounds a minute on average. By around 500 rounds, the rifle is almost to hot to hold, because it is glowing red hot. And rounds are starting to cook off.

At around 800 rounds, it literally destroys itself.

You can not even fire a machine gun at that kind of rate without it destroying itself. And that is with it firing in the open bolt position, and being able to swap out barrels.

This is the difference between somebody that does not understand weapons and what they can do, and somebody that can.

Go down to your local gun shop and tell them you want a rifle that can fire 500 rounds a minute. I would love to see the look on your face as they laugh at you. And of course first of all you will have to find a 500 round magazine somewhere.

and your solution is to try to disarm 100 million people for what is an extremely rare occurrence

so next time that guy with the AR 15 wouldn't be around to stop the killer

Or, maybe the nut would not have been able to just go out and buy himself one to use after he decided that blasting away two-dozen people worshiping in a church would make for a nice way to spend Sunday morning.

Oh, look. Another one who focuses on the number of rounds stated instead of addressing the message. So predictable.

why do you have such a hard time answering easy questions

do you HONESTLY think that the gun bans that this version of you screams for are more likely to disarm

1) honest gun owners who have never committed a substantive crime in their life

2) someone who is planning mass murder and cares not about the consequences

easy question

shooting 500 rounds a minute for 2 seconds doesn't mean anything . we all know what you were trying to claim. some can fire 6 shot revolver at almost that rate for 6 shots

What does the message mean when the facts given to support it are garbage?

Either present factual data, or do not even bother. Otherwise you are basically either lying, or completely ignorant of facts.

 Are you seriously going to quibble over 500 rounds per minute verses 100, 200 or 300, and, by doing so, ignore the point of the post? Seriously?

Yeah, that sounds like par for the course for most of the opposition in this sub-forum. Hence, why I laid for you all that trap to fall into.

Obviously there are more honest gun owners who do not go off and shoot themselves or someone else. But, there are still too many who do--enough to consider limiting access to guns, especially high capacity firearms.

The VTech shooter used 10 round magazines and pistols and yet committed the largest mass shooting up until Orlando.

so you want to ban a revolver because Jerry Miculeck can crank out that rate for a six shot revolver. the fact is you are trying to imply someone is able to rain 500 bullets in a minute on people.

what part of the second amendment says it no longer applies after a certain number of cartridges in the gun? and if its "legal"to ban more than 10 rounds in a gun isn't it just as legal to limit everyone to one or two shots in a gun?

Here is a great idea that I bet you cannot argue against

any state or federal agency that issues firearms to its civilian employees for self defense against criminals is equitably estopped from claiming that the same capacity weapons are not legal for other civilians to own

which means those who want 10 round magazine limits will demand five round limits the next time a shooting like VT happens

Oh, look. Another one who focuses on the number of rounds stated instead of addressing the message. So predictable.

Then why use exaggerated numbers in order to make your case sound more dire to those that do not know better? Why not be honest and use the accurate numbers. Isn't the actual number scary enough to you?

There is no need for 15 round pistols and 30 round rifles. I own five pistols by the way.

There is a need, say some dirt bag shoots at you on the street with a pistol that holds a 15 round mag (yes, I know there are magazines with more rounds, but in this situation lets say he only has 15 round mags), you whip out your 7 round 1911 (your standard basic 1911, don't pull this different model crap on me) and you shoot at him. Some how in that moment you are a crappy shot and you miss every shot, that guy pops around the corner and unloads his mag at you. You have less rounds than him, forcing you to reload more often, whereas he can shoot at you more, that gives him an advantage. I'm only talking about magazine capacity, not the caliber of bullet, shooting style, or really anything else, strictly magazine capacity. Anyways more rounds = HUGE advantage. Not a hard concept to figure out.

Yeah, and also you can commit mass murders with single shot firearms, you just need the proper training.

since I am a former US Shooting team member, an All-American (shotgun), national junior champion (ISU Skeet), a former USPSA Master class shooter, a former national record holder (speed shooting) and an NRA distinguished Expert in Three position Rifle and shotgun, and a US Marshal's service Distinguished Expert (Glock and several other handguns) I am pretty up on such things. Magazine bans are stupid and only handicap private citizens who often, in the case of a criminal attack, are limited to the firearm they can grab or carry and don't have time to stuff their pockets (assuming they are clothed) with magazines

I'm curious, what do you think about the AR-15, how do you think it works. List a fact that you know about it off the top of your head, don't go google it. Reply to this comment for your answer. I'm genuinely curious. Also AR-15, NOT M16, OR ANY M16 VARIANTS! I know someone will try to bring up the M16.

I'm against the magazine ban too, I think you may have mistook something I said, haha. Also, I forgot to mention in that post that I don't think people normally carry extra mags, I was just saying it for said scenario.

more likely scenario. You are asleep at 2 AM in the morning. Your dog starts barking an a minute later the alarm on your front door goes bonkers. You grab the Pistol in your night stand or the rifle you have there and try to get behind cover as 2-4 home invaders run up your stairs and try to force their way into your home. from behind the bed you cannot get other magazines, You are limited to what is in your gun,

In my case its a 18 round magazine in my SPO1 and 30 rounds in the SIG MCX M4 rifle I have up in my office. I also have mags for the pistol on the vest i have hanging on my bedpost. and a flashlight on the pistol, but most people don't.

criminals intent on harming you are not going to obey or be limited by a magazine limit They have already disobeyed laws against robbery, home invasion and having weapons despite being felons

nope I saw that, I know you are new here, I was just letting you know that I am pretty well up on firearms issues since I've been a competitive shooter for 45 years and a retired DOJ attorney where firearms laws (I was the guy who handled FFLs who were being stripped of their licenses for violating the law, among other things) were one of my several specialities

Yeah, I don't know why I chose a street shoot out for my example. Kind of a rare situation...

Me-I have a bunch. the more interesting argument that never is resolved is piston driven (like My Sig MCX or my SIG "pistol") vs direct impingement operation as designed by Gene Stoner. AR 15s are incredibly versatile, easy to reconfigure, easy to maintain, and easy to shoot accurately and quickly under pressure. they also are easy to fit just about anyone. my son was shooting one with a 22 caliber conversion in it at age 7 due to the telescoping stock. I can teach women who have never shot before to be competent shots with 9mm (PCC) AR 15s in a day or less. far faster than using a pistol and they aren't afraid of them like some are of much heavier recoiling shotguns. got to go teach, BBL

Ok, I know I chose a weird situation for my example. I guess I was trying to think of something where reloads would occur, to reinforce my point on how more rounds gives you an advantage.

AR's are fantastic firearms. They excel in the "lets see how much crap you can pile on" area. They make great home defense weapons for sure. They're also great plinking guns, especially the ones that are converted to .22 cal. I honestly prefer the AK, 7.62 is a great round for stopping power. I would want to stop a guy fast when he's running at me. 5.56 is more of a pass right through round.
