Things might have gone differently if the Serbians hadn’t tried to commit genocide involving ethnic Albanians there. That’s why Serbia’s former president died in prison awaiting trial on charges involving crimes against humanity at the Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia at The Hague. And if you’re going to call the U.S. a hypocrite for recognizing Kosovo as an independent country, you might as well toss in the other 99 U.N. member states that recognize it, excluding, of course, Putin and his totalitarian pals like Venezuela’s Maduro and Syria’s Assad..

That is indeed how it should work. But I have seen reports recently that the Ukrainians detained Russian reservists at the front.

Just small numbers went to the front. Most of the mobilized are still straining. People familiar with how the Russian military system works, say that it will take 1.5-2 months for large numbers of the mobilized to be deployed.

Importantly this is yet something else that Putin can’t hide from his people. These images will be absolutely everywhere.

It's not like Putin tries to hide such things anyway. Such suggestions are American disinfo attempts.

American propaganda tells us that right from 24 February. Why send weapons worth tens of billions of $$$ if the war is already lost? Something doesn't add up.

Our mistake was letting Putin get away with his bullying for as long as he did, which is something we need to keep in mind with regard to China. International alliances can deter aggressors, but action has to be coordinated, united, and decisive. A light sanction here and there is meaningless.

Why not the other way around? It was Russia's mistake to let America invade so many countries, kill so many people, build so many bases and develop this impudent attitude! Conveniently ignoring the 58 that abstained and those that were absent- which represent more than half of the world population. Lots of countries have internal problems with all kinds of regions that want to secede, that's why they abstain, not because they disagree with Russia.

It wasn’t as if the US was alone in that assessment.

Global condemnation of the Russian invasion was universal, as soon as the shock wore off.

The fact that Putin launched it right at the end of the Sochi Olympics was just as widely condemned. Especially after it became more and more apparant that the Olympics were used as a way for Putin and the oligarchs in his inner circle to grift off the country on a truly massive scale.

The US didn’t need to push anything.

The absent votes I can’t put much credence in one way or another. Then there are the usual “non-aligned” states, like India, Brazil, and much of Africa. We can’t really count those either, lest we remove the fig leaf to their claim that they’re somehow neutral. Sure, China has almost 1.5 billion people, but do they really have a vote? Seems to me there are really only a handful, with one in particular. I put more credence in nations that actually took a stance, and when I see the results I’m left with 100 yeas—largely free, democratic, prosperous countries like Canada, Australia, and all of Western Europe, versus 11 nays, like North Korea, Venezuela, Syria, Cuba, Sudan—well, hopefully you get the picture. I know it tells me all I need know.

Well I've got some bad news for you. Every day that you wake up and there are any nuclear weapons anywhere in the world that aren't under your direct personal control, you're "rolling the dice over armageddon." The reality is that if Putin wants to destroy the world, there's not a damn thing that anyone can do to stop him. But what we CAN do is take actions to make a nuclear armageddon less likely, and that means standing up to bullies threatening others with their nuclear weapons.

Giving in to that blackmail only proves that it works. It encourages Russia to do it again somewhere else in a few years. It encourages China to give it a try too. Maybe India and Pakistan will both do some nuclear saber-rattling in Kashmir. Plenty of non-nuclear nations who have designs on their neighbors' land might be inclined to get nuclear weapons to make it a reality...and those neighbors might in turn be inclined to get nuclear weapons to prevent that from happening.

Giving the bully your lunch money does not make the bullying stop. It makes it worse.

Given this immense ambiguity, I think it's much better to use clearer terms, such as the fact that Crimeans had a referendum wherein the vast majority voted to rejoin Russia and then Russia accepted their request and annexed Crimea. A story similar to that of the Republic of Texas, only the Republic of Texas had not been part of the U.S. prior to the U.S. annexing it.

An invasion is a military offensive in which large numbers of combatants of one geopolitical entity aggressively enter territory owned by another such entity, (Yes) generally with the objective of either: conquering (failed but yes); liberating (claimed by Putin) or re-establishing control or authority over a territory.

Threaten nuclear war if they attack Taiwan and the US and West want to stop 'em. So that when they set out beyond that, as they would, to incorporate as subjects the nations of the region it would be a walk. And beyond. Beijing might get serious about wanting Hawaii. And Russia might get serious about wanting Alaska back. There'd be no end to what they'd want -- no end at all.

So it's best for NATO plus Ukraine to stop Putin in the here and now. And the West knows this. Ukraine meanwhile is getting its country back. Taiwan is encouraged.
