I just now decided to take a look around at the post debate polls to see who people thought won the debate. I'm absolutely shocked and just don't understand... this is like a bad joke that just keeps hitting the next level.

Trump crushes in all these polls with second place averaging around 11%.

45% DRUDGE POLL: WHO WON THE FIRST REPUBLICAN DEBATE '16?
47% Republican Debate Poll: Who Won First Fox GOP Debate?
38% Republican presidential debate: Who won? Vote in our poll.
60% Poll: Who won the first Republican debate? | MSNBC

Are these polls truly indicative of what America thinks? Really? Please tell me this was just a fluke.

For those on the left that think this is good and a sure win for the Democrats, think again. IMO this is a symptom of a sick country, something is wrong. Even if this were to help a D get elected how do you get anything done with such a large stripe of the country on the fringe? Look at how much trouble Obama had and what a dysfunctional political system we've endured for these past six years. If this trend continues I think it's possible 2016 on could be even worse, especially if a D gets elected... or a nut.

online self-selecting polls are really just measurement of who directs their followers to the online self-selecting polls.

Feel free to post better polls.

Those aren't real polls. They are unlimited self-selecting polls that have no value.

I realize they are not scientific and properly conducted polls. However they span a couple different corners of media and all are largely in agreeance. This could be a huge fluke but I expect a good poll to be fairly similar.

With all due respect this makes absolutely zero sense. I like Trump and wanted him to do well, but any objective observer could not possibly come away with that conclusion. That said, I will tell you I finally had some time today to watch Fiorina ,and WOW.. Her and Kaisch are my favorites right now. She's a breath of fresh air!

Just a thought... Could it be that large numbers of liberals are voting in these polls?

Btw, the first "scientific" polling I've seen on RCP shows a Trump gain. Even more significant, it's a Florida poll which heavily favors Jeb.

Doesn't make any sense to me? Are republican voters becoming so jaded that we support "our guy" no matter what? That's what Dems do, please tell me this isn't happening... Trump did not win that debate, in fact, he didn't even finish in the top ten.

In my view it makes perfect sense. Trump isn't a politician and he says what so many people want to say. Doesn't matter at this point if folks will ultimately realize one has to be a politician to hold the office. What they saw last night was the party's talking heads attacking the only one who was speaking honestly without quibbling and playing candidate. And he called them all stupid for it. EXACTLY what people have been shouting at the screen for years.

A crushing win for Trump is going to result in a crushing loss for the GOP against Hillary.

I can imagine no one she would rather run against.

That (supporting their guy) is what BOTH SIDES (DEM and GOP) do.

It is the independents who decide the elections.

If the Independents want Trump then more power to him. I rather doubt it however.

The Independents voted for BHO last time around, and the time before that.

The GOP opponents were viewed as incompetent. Trump is also incompetent.

Ergo the Independents are more likely to choose Hillary over Trump.

Fox is right -- Trump better not be anywhere on the ticket.

I thought he did not so great myself and expected him to take a significant hit, that is why I'm so confused here.

Just a thought... Could it be that large numbers of liberals are voting in these polls?

For the MNSBC poll definitely. That is the one clear anomaly and surely why they hit the incredible 60% number. However the others aren't really liberal bastions...

No, I get his appeal, and that is precisely why he appeals to me, I just think that you can have the same affect, and look a lot more classy doing it. Trump isn't classy even on his best day, and his lack of specifics troubles me.

People want to be entertained, Trump is entertaining. Our country's view of politics has paralleled the change in what we like to watch as "news".

Trump was under attack by the mods big time and conservatives have an inclination to double down support in such instances.

Similar conclusions have been drawn about Trump repeatedly, especially by respected pundits on both sides of the aisle. It's clear the rules have changed and is why I believe this is a bad omen, something isn't right here, not just with these polls, but with the entire Trump phenomena.

Say it ain't so. Please. Time to start drinking.

There is a segment on the populace that honestly believes that the reason they don't win elections is that they aren't hard core enough.

This group (among other groups) chose palin or huckabee, got rightly laughed at, took a good hard look at themselves and decided it was everyone else's fault that they keep losing elections and decided to double down on crazy. Now we have trump in his current incarnation.

He was under attack, but what many are failing to realize is that FOX was doing Trump and the rest of the candidates a huge favor. They gave them a chance to address their most important vulnerabilities. Objective republican voters would be wise to what FOX did ever so cleverly last night.

That was not a post debate poll. Its a Florida primary poll.

And Trump seems to be leading in every primary poll, although MN has Walker up by a point.

It reflects the absolute anomie of the Republican voter.

Yeah, I've never considered him seriously for the office. You do need to be a politician to handle the position. But again, folks have a lifetime of being sick and tired of politicians. Now even more than ever.

I will wait for a dependable pollster with a scientific poll. Never even heard of this pollster. They aren't even rated on 538 Politics.
