Manchin says he ‘cannot vote’ for Democrats’ $2 trillion spending package

We base our tax rates on what the taxpayer can afford to pay. That is how we raise revenue to pay for the Govt without bankrupting our citizens. When we do not use that metric we not only go into debt, we also slow economic growth because more and more of the nation's capital is being socked away instead of being spent in the economy.
No we don't, we collect taxes based upon a specific schedule of what people earn, Eon Musk is paying 11 billion dollars in 2021, do you think you deserve some of what he earns? As I pointed out why is it you never post data showing that we don't pay enough in FIT, CIT or excise taxes? How about state and local taxes? we are in debt because of Congressional spending of entitlement money from SS and Medicare, not discretionary spending. Take a civics class and learn the line items of the budget which I have posted over and over again

Something we won't hear from you due to your dedication tot he fraud called liberalism where rhetoric trumps actual results

You do realize that people from cold areas have been moving to Florida since air conditioning became common, two generations ago. This Fox story could have been written 40 years ago.

Yes I realize that but what does that have to do with the atmosphere in Florida and the way people are treated that move there? You seem to keep diverting from the questions you have been asked over and over again about your loyalty to liberalism, your claim that tax cuts are an expense, and that FIT revenue didn't grow after the tax cuts? Seems all you want to do is continue to spread the same liberal lies and propaganda over and over again, why? What is it about liberalism that creates your kind of loyalty?

Paul Krugman lays it out why Manchin’s position is contrary to the needs of West Virginia, the second poorest state in the union.

What We Lose if We Don’t Build Back Better

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/20/...back-better.html?referringSource=articleShare

What I do know is that there will be huge human and, yes, economic costs if Biden’s moderate but crucial spending plans fall by the wayside.
Failure to enact a decent social agenda would condemn millions of American children to poor health and low earnings in adulthood — because that’s what growing up in poverty does. It would condemn millions more to inadequate medical care and financial ruin if they got ill, because that’s what happens when people lack adequate health insurance. It would condemn hundreds of thousands, maybe more, to unnecessary illness and premature death from air pollution, even aside from the intensified risk of climate catastrophe.

I’m not speculating here. There’s overwhelming evidence that children in low-income families who receive financial aid are significantly healthier and more productive than those who didn’t once they become adults. Uninsured Americans often lack access to needed medical care and face unaffordable bills. And studies show that policies to mitigate climate change will also yield major health benefits from cleaner air over the next decade.
As an aside, it’s not clear how many Americans realize the extent to which we’re falling behind other nations in terms of meeting basic human needs. For example, I still keep running into people who believe that we have the world’s highest life expectancy, when the reality is that we can expect to live between three and five fewer years than citizens of most European countries.
There are also, by the way, large and growing gaps between U.S. states. In 1979 life expectancy in West Virginia was only about 14 months shorter than in New York; by 2016 the gap had widened to six years. And yes, Manchin’s home state would benefit immensely from the social spending its Democratic senator seems determined to block…

I just learned that BBB has a provision for renewal of a tax that funds the Black Lung Trust fund, and that’s why The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) are urging Manchin to vote for BBB.

Krugman is a moron.

He thinks we need scientists to lie about an alien attack so we'll invest in infrastructure.
Thinks it's a great idea to mint a $1T coin to use to pay for gov't spending.

So John McCain was a "hero" for going with his conscience, but Joe Manchin is a traitor for doing the same?

The terminal party of hypocrisy.
This crowd still waxes poetic about the RINPO McCain but when we say Manchin is a man of courage, they go haywire.

Here is the indictment that you want to ignore, how is it that in 11 months a President who took over from the "devil" Donald Trump has lost 14+ points in job approval rating? Stunning how a supposed 81 million Americans who voted for this incompetent now are showing their disapproval for his performance and results, results that you ignored for Trump and continue to ignore for Biden. Personality is what matters to you, not policies

I support programs that help people in the poorest states. The child tax credit does that. It’s also good for the country, as there is overwhelming evidence that children in low-income families who receive financial aid are significantly healthier and more productive than those who didn’t once they become adults.
It's all in how they are raised. If their parents teach them that they are where they are cause.....whitey, then it is a given they will grow up being losers.

Thank you for proving you don't have the slightest understanding of anything PK writes.

ROFLMAO, unbeatable by liberal standards means a disaster for everyone else. again no such official data to support your claims and of course this is an OPINION Piece. Post Treasury data to support your claims because they don't exist and if the data was unbeatable he wouldn't have a 41% approval rating. People get it, historic high inflation, supply chain issues, 4 million fewer people employed, Covid cases and deaths on the rise even with the vaccine. Did you even notice that he finally gave Trump credit for the vaccine? You voted for an empty suit, incompetent suit as you always buy rhetoric and when the rhetoric is proven wrong it is way too late.

Military personnel costs are becoming ridiculous, yet it is seen as unpatriotic not to keep increasing them.

does that mean that it is seen as unChristian to not keep helping the poor and the aged and the sick............answer: yes.....but much better to be seen as unChristian than unpatriotic.......that's the reason most of the Bible thumpers are so patriotic......they like to roll it all into one big turd........onward Christian soldiers

So you think it is the federal taxpayers responsibility to take care of the poor in the states and local communities? what are you paying state and local taxes for and have you ever heard of neighbor helping neighbor? Charities exist in cities and local communities, what is their role?

Oh, by the way let me help you with a definition

What you want to ignore with regards to unemployment is labor participation rate and net employment not just job growth, bls.gov is your key

Regarding GDP, the components of GDP and what percentage they contribute to the total. What percentage of GDP is actually gov't spending and what are the people getting for that spending

State and local taxes paid and their purpose.

What metrics are you going to use to judge Biden performance and what if anything can be done to change your opinion of the liberal ideology and get you to admit that you are wrong?

You do realize that people from cold areas have been moving to Florida since air conditioning became common, two generations ago. This Fox story could have been written 40 years ago.
Now how could anyone leave that liberal utopia of California which has incredible weather year round? One of these days you are going to realize that people always vote their pocket books and are getting sick and tired of the liberal rhetoric that only generates high state and local taxes but never solves any social problems.

One of the funnier things in the article is it states Sarasota and Tampa are among the top 5 places people from other states are moving to. Guess which political party holds the mayor's office? Hint: doesn't start with an r or end in an n.
😜

The politics of Florida are interesting. The Southern Eastern and West coasts are more Democratic. The panhandle is essentially East Alabama.

The metrics were RIGHT THERE in the article that I posted in post #456. Didn't you read it?
U.S. financial markets are outperforming the world by the biggest margin in the 21st century, and with good reason: America’s economy improved more in Joe Biden's first 12 months than any president during the past 50 years notwithstanding the contrary media narrative contributing to dour public opinion.

Exceptional returns from dollar-denominated assets, especially the S&P 500 Index in both absolute terms and relative to its global counterparts, can be attributed to record-low debt ratios enabling companies to reap the biggest profit margins since 1950. Corporate America is booming because the Biden administration's Covid-19 vaccination programs and $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan reduced the jobless rate to 4.2% in November from 6.2% in February, continuing an unprecedented rate of decline during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Consider that real, or inflation adjusted, gross domestic product surged at an average annual rate of 5.03% in each of the first three quarters of 2021, and is poised to expand 5.6% for the year based on the average estimate of more than 80 economists surveyed Bloomberg. If that forecast proves accurate, it would be more than 2.8 times the average between 2000 and 2019 and double the average since 1976.

All of which makes Biden's first year in the White House the standout among the seven previous presidents, based on 10 market and economic indicators given equal weight. According to data compiled by Bloomberg, no one comes close to matching Biden's combination of No. 1 and No. 2 rankings for each of the measures:

  • Gross domestic product (1)
  • Profit growth (1)
  • S&P 500 performance (2)
  • Consumer credit (1)
  • Non-farm payrolls (2)
  • Manufacturing jobs (2)
  • Business productivity (2)
  • Dollar appreciation (2)
  • S&P 500 relative performance (2)

If Biden was a Republican, Fox News would be putting Biden on Mt. Rushmore.

And yet, Trump walloped Biden there in 2020 plus gaining a larger vote share there compared to 2016.

I gave you the definition of context and you ignored it, interesting how you compare Biden to the Covid years and his so called great performance has generated at 41% approval rating. the only ones supporting him are the entitlement babies like you who need someone else to take care of them. High inflation, supply chain, foreign policy appeasement, lower employment, low labor participation rate, high gov't spending inflating GDP obviously put you out of touch with reality. Corporate American booming? how does that benefit people like you and those the left claims they want to help, the poor, the homeless? Are the poor and homeless benefiting from the stock market? Does California and NY still lead the nation in poverty? you really are out of touch with reality

Improvement over pandemic results really isn't improvement at all and reflects in the job approval rating

and your proof that West Virginians didn't want the BBB?
Not needed. Manchin is still popular in West Virginia and has the pulse of his constituents. Which part of Trump took that state in two landslides do you not understand? It's a very red state.
