Forgetting nuclear warfare which is pointless to speculate over , Russia could take Ukraine in days and the numbers of US forces involved would be minimal . They would be eliminated immediately .

Regardless , the US doesn't do' winning' in battles , let alone wars . They are professional and serial losers according to the records .

Yes, yes, GDP is small... heard... what a huge GDP the Taliban has then... but that's it.

Of course, Russia is technically incapable of attacking the United States, well, I'm not talking about missiles, but intervention... However, both the United States and NATO will be completely unable to defeat Russia in the European Theater of Operations, especially if Russia is on the defensive.
In general, in principle, there is currently no army in Europe capable of resisting the Russian army, any attempt to attack Russia head-on, through Europe, is a suicidal attempt.

Uhh...this is a war between Russia and Ukraine. Not Russia and the US. This isn't the cold war. While we have committed to assisting Ukraine through sanctions and supplies we are NOT involved militarily in ANY way.

Putting nuclear warfare aside, as much as Russia is over spending on the military, the US is quite a bit ahead of them. In a direct contest between the US and Russia there would be no contest. Only China is strong enough to singularly oppose the US in a direct military conflict. Not that any conflict would ever be isolated between just two countries these days, but assuming that was the case the US is absurdly strong.

That's the only point I was making. There is no way Russia could mount an offensive against the US. The US probably could mount an offensive against Russia effectively in my opinion, but it could not hold Russia for the same reason Russia will never be able to hold Ukraine. The US could wipe out the organized military pretty quickly, but any attempt at occupation would be suicidal.

A rather meaningless contest of power in general, as realistically either country attacking the other would lead to many other countries involving themselves. But assuming somehow nobody else got involved the US has pretty overwhelming military strength.

And about how much the US spends there. Really a lot, very expensive toilet paper, a lot of expensive bases around the world and aircraft carriers... a good thing, only in Russia, in the European part alone, there are more than half a million troops who are trained to act as a single army, and not as different bases in the ocean. Russia has a huge mobilization reserve of people, most of the men served in the army, they know what service is.

The US could destroy the Russian formal organized military, but it could not "conquer" Russia. As you point out, sustained guerrilla warfare is very effective. There is a 0% chance the US could maintain a sustained occupation there.

Regardless, it's a rather meaningless dick measuring contest of which country is willing to spend less on improving the lives of their citizens in favor of spending on the military. The US could also fight all of Europe at once if it wanted to. We are just absolutely insane with how many resources we direct towards the military. That's not a good thing.

Although honestly, there is very little geopolitical reason for the US and Russia to even be enemies at all at this point outside of Putin being determined to expand Russia's borders. If Russia focused more on building up an economic Eurasian trade bloc as an alternative to the US instead of just outright annexing it's neighbors I think that would be good.
