This is long overdue.

For example, countries in western Europe get drugs like Ozempic and Monjouro for ~$175/month while American consumers are asked to pay $1200 for the same medication.
If Maggot can pull this off I'll give him a well well earned, 'Bravo!'

He's still an amoral sociopath and complete douche, but he's 100% on target here. There's no reason that Americans should be asked to pay multiples of what other nations get for almost 10% of what we're expected to pay.

This should have been done as a bipartisan bill in the Congress but I guess they're too busy doing nothing. So an EO is the way this is going to have to go.

Trump signs executive order seeking to lower US drug costs by challenging prices in other countries

I'll believe it when I see it.

Especially when he signed an executive order doing the exact opposite during week 1.

Amazing that people don't mind the 'rich people paying more' mentality until they themselves are considered rich. College tuition is the same thing. Poor people don't pay anything and rich people cover the cost of the poor people by being required to pay higher tuition.

Are you in the wrong thread?

I'll tell you one thing. If he wants to improve his sagging popularity numbers he would be well advised to push this through as priority #1. He would earn praise from all corners and demographics of this country if he succeeds.

Not holding my breath. This administration is horrendous on public health on every other front.

Trump wages a PR war against Big Pharma while the GOP's "Big Ugly Bill" chops Medicaid/SNAP off at the knees.

Americans are no richer than residents of most countries in Western Europe.

Yeah, that has nothing to do with universities.

Certainly true...and disgraceful; but two things can be true at once. Big pharma has needed to be reined in for a very long time.

Yes, they need profits to fund much needed R&D, but those costs should be spread fairly. Why are we subsidizing the rest of the world?

You seem to be overlooking the reason why the US pays more.

Other nations have single payer health systems, which means the government negotiates drug prices and access for 75% or more of the country's population.

The US has repeatedly refused to adopt a similar system. As a result, no matter what the Orange Authoritarian Goon wants, he lacks the authority and leverage to lower prices for anything other than Medicare.

Pharmaceuticals are only playing along, to a degree, because they think they can threaten those single payer nations by proxy -- e.g. convince Trump to pressure other nations somehow into paying more for drugs.

If Maggot can pull this off I'll give him a well well earned, 'Bravo!'
He won't. You'll see.

Even if he was competent... which he isn't... He lacks the authority to implement price controls. And there's no way drug companies will go with this if it reduces their profit margins.

And don't forget, Dear Leader is currently increasing drug prices via tariffs.

He's still an amoral sociopath and complete douche, but he's 100% on target here.
Only in the same way that a clock is right twice a day.
