‘Unmasking’ probe commissioned by Barr concludes without charges or any public report

By Matt Zapotosky and Shane Harris
Oct. 13, 2020 at 6:20 p.m. EDT

"The federal prosecutor appointed by Attorney General William P. Barr to review whether Obama-era officials improperly requested the identities of individuals whose names were redacted in intelligence documents has completed his work without finding any substantive wrongdoing, according to people familiar with the matter.

The revelation that U.S. Attorney John Bash, who left the department last week, had concluded his review without criminal charges or any public report will rankle President Trump at a moment when he is particularly upset at the Justice Department. The department has so far declined to release the results of Bash’s work, though people familiar with his findings say they would likely disappoint conservatives who have tried to paint the “unmasking” of names — a common practice in government to help understand classified documents — as a political conspiracy.
The president in recent days has pressed federal law enforcement to move against his political adversaries and complained that a different prosecutor tapped by Barr to investigate the FBI’s 2016 investigation of his campaign will not be issuing any public findings before the election...."

Rep Peter King Is Angry President Obama Wore A Tan Suit
“There’s no way any of us can excuse what the president did yesterday,” King said on NewsMaxTV on Friday. The interview was flagged by Buzzfeed. “When you have the world watching … a week, two weeks of anticipation of what the United States is gonna do. For him to walk out —I’m not trying to be trivial here— in a light suit, light tan suit, saying that first he wants to talk about what most Americans care about the revision of second quarter numbers on the economy. This is a week after Jim Foley was beheaded and he’s trying to act like real Americans care about the economy, not about ISIS and not about terrorism. And then he goes on to say he has no strategy.”

Maybe this thread has potential as a CT "newseum".:

Polls that show former Vice President Joe Biden with a big lead over President Donald Trump "have massive oversampling of Democrats," Trump 2020 campaign adviser Steve Cortes argued Monday.

"I think polls matter," Cortes told host Bill Hemmer. "We pay some attention to them. It's very critical to look at the inputs because the inputs often determine the final output numbers.

"Many of these polls have massive oversampling of Democrats," Cortes added.

The facts here?

Several polls showing Biden up, nationally, by double digits have very interesting samples.

An ABC poll showing Biden up 12 gathered data, in part, by calling landlines and specifically asking for the youngest member of the household. A practice not conducted by most other polling firms. In this election cycle, an NBC poll found that Gen Z voters are 4 times as likely to support Biden as average voters.

A CNN poll showing Biden up 16 reached a sample, in which 84% of those respondents had watched the Presidential Debate. A debate which was viewed by 22% of Americans on television.

A recent NBC poll showing Biden up 14 reached a sample in which 9% more Democrats were contacted than Republicans.

Meanwhile, Trump's approval rating is ticking up, slightly.

And his RCP average is tightening in many key battleground states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Arizona.

All this doesn't necessarily point to a Trump victory on November 3. But we could be dealing with a great deal of slick political maneuvering in order to drive fundraising into the Biden campaign, or perhaps, suppress fundraising for the Trump campaign.

We'll see on November 3.

Yet another Trump "October Surprise" balloon unceremoniously popped.
The real "October Surprise" was Trump getting COVID. Every White House event and rally will now be seen as a super spreader. He's the Super Spreader in Chief. In honor of this momentous occasion I am renaming the Trump campaign. I will no longer refer to the Trump campaign as "The COVID Express" It is now The Super Spreader Express. 😁

"A federal judge rebuked the Justice Department and the White House Counsel’s Office on Friday for dismissing without explanation President Trump’s “emphatic and unambiguous” tweets ordering the declassification of all documents in the government’s probe of Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

“I have fully authorized the total Declassification of any & all documents pertaining to the single greatest political CRIME in American History, the Russia Hoax,” the president tweeted Oct. 6. “Likewise, the Hillary Clinton Email Scandal. No redactions!”...
....

Associate Deputy Attorney General Bradley Weinsheimer maintained in a court filing Tuesday that the White House Counsel’s Office informed the Justice Department that notwithstanding the president’s statement, “there is no order requiring wholesale declassification or disclosure of documents at issue.”
At Friday’s hearing, however, Judge Reggie B. Walton of the U.S. District Court in D.C. expressed bafflement at the claim that President Trump’s words were not to be believed.
“I think the American public has a right to rely on what the president says his intention is,” Walton said.
“It seems to me when a president makes a clear, unambiguous statement of what his intention is, that I can’t rely on the White House Counsel’s Office saying, ‘Well, that was not his intent,’ ” the judge said
in a hearing conducted by videoconference because of the coronavirus pandemic...."
