I grew up in Southern Louisiana, and my mother would make lost bread for us for breakfast.
I later found out people called this French Toast, I thought it odd at the time since toast is something else.
Anyway my Mothers Recipe was very simple.
In a pie plate crack one egg, and beat with a fork, add 1/2 C milk, 1/4 C sugar, and some vanilla extract.
mix together with the fork.
Dip bread slices in on both sides and cook on the skillet.
Serve with granulated sugar sprinkled over the top.
If you let the bread soak too long, it comes out like bread pudding for breakfast!
Now I'm hungry
