Any politician who really believes they can stop crime in Chicago is either delusional or lying to himself. The cleanup of criminals in that city would warrant tactics that would enrage and frighten those WOKE voters who will howl at the cruelty needed to stop thugs with guns in South Chicago.
It would necessitate the tactics like those used in Memphis where teams of cops would necessarily use tools and means that would be best NOT CAUGHT on any video camera. It's like making sausage. You don't want to see it done. You just want to see the dregs of the city caught and put in jail - and kept there.

I don't follow Chicago politics very closely- but I'm wondering how much she's being blamed and crucified for the Covid crime wave which happened everywhere. But oh well, that's politics for ya; not always fair.

But with that being said, Chicago is my favorite town- the quintessential American town. I used to live in Milwaukee for several years, and had some close friends in Chicago I would visit often on the weekends. We had a great time. You just gotta stay away from the few bad neighborhoods, and there aren't too many of them. It's a beautiful city, and tons of fun. Never run out of things to do (of course, when the weather is good).

So playing the race card and saying everyone is racist or illegally importing guns into Chicago have to be the best answers she can give. It could never be her incompetence or unwillingness to capture and incarcerate gun-toting thugs and keeping them in jail. Not that.

What is the fix?

If I had the magic bullet, so to speak, for that I’d be running the city, not posting on an Internet forum


What I do know:

Increasing the number and effectiveness of poverty relief and educational programs is one part. A lot of people join because they don’t see a future for themselves with how poverty stricken the areas are, and with their relatives and friends joining or affiliated, they think “I might as well join too”.

There’s also a “hearts and minds aspect”. For a lot of years there were sizable chunks of CPD which operated as little more than gangs themselves. That kind of treatment breeds generational distrust and resentment in these neighborhoods, and without their support there’s never going to be a chance of rooting out the various gangs. So yes, police reform is an important part.

Furthermore, as far as the gangs go many are incredibly fragmented. It’s splinter groups of splinter groups of splinter groups clashing with each other in many places. There’s no one Capone or Frank Lucas type figure where you can take down and the whole thing just rolls itself up.

It’s not something with a quick or easy fix.

That being said, in the mind of many conservatives the city seems to be seen as some sort of cross between mid 2000s Fallujah and Mad Max, and that just isn’t accurate.
