Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but lost the electoral college thanks to the rust belt. Should she have been the winner?

No, I don't mind the electoral college from a poli-sci perspective, it's a fascinating idea, however, those saying "Trump has a clear mandate" are fooling the crap out of themselves.

Obama did better in 2008, house and senate completely taken, Republicans opposed any idea of a mandate.

No one should insist Trump has one.

If we ever clean out the corruption, the electoral college will have to get tossed along with gerrymandering, voter suppression, judicial elections, etc...

Trump is going to be inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. That is the only "mandate" worth speaking of. Additionally, Republicans have retained control of Congress, indicating that it is their agenda that America supports at this time, and not what the Democrats offer. That is the nature of our republican, constitutional democracy.

I voted for Trump and I agree with you he does not have a mandate. That said he is also on a very short leash with most of his supporters, they and I want things he said he would do done or at the very least a very strong attempt to get them done made. He may not have a mandate, he does have the congress and therefor NO excuses.

I wanted her to win, but she lost fair and square.

The liberals were very happy with the Electoral College till they had lost.

I am seeing alot of whiners, but not much of a repeat. In 2000 gore won the popular vote, but lost the electoral vote by a single state and by a tiny amount of votes, while trump lost the popular vote by less than one percent, but won the electoral college by a wide margin.

2000 was way closer, close enough for everyone to scream day and night about, close enough where ralph nader and a few thousand votes was all it took to change the election. Bush won florida by 537 votes, topped with what nader siphoned off gore in close contests, it is miles away from the 2016 results.
