Looks like NATO is just about to start falling apart

Turkey has delivered an ultimatum to the USA – Washington will either withdraw recognition of Armenian Genocide or Ankara brings up the point to close US Incirlic air base in Turkey.

And yet, it is clear that the Armenian Genocide is a mere excuse for Turkey’s giving America the go-by. Anywayz, the Incirlic air base will be closed down one day as Ankara has set a course for distancing itself from Washington and does not want to be a mere tool in hands of Americans.

Somehow, it cannot be ruled out that there will be other NATO member states to follow the lead of Turkey and scale down co-operation with Washington as being dissatisfied with the stalled military campaign in Afghanistan and Iraq. So, it turns out that together with financial crisis America began to lose its weight in the world. Bummer!

Damn, and just when France decides to rejoin.

:damn

Ankara brings up the point to close US Incirlic air base in Turkey.

I give this a .05% chance of there not being a carefully worded joint agreement between the two nations on the unfortunate circumstances inherent in the actions taken by the Ottoman Empire against the Armenian population. 1914-1918

IOW NATO is fine. :prof

What I quoted also says brings up the 'idea' of closing the US basing(since I doubt Turkey will remove the runways..lol) and nothing about NATO or even direct US alliance ties.

How much of that is you and how much of it is the *unlinked* source I dunno :2razz:

Remind me again why we have not recognised the Armenian genocide?

1. We have a new president, so it's extortion season. Turkey is squeezing us for cash just like Kyrgyzstan just did.

3. NATO hasn't really had a mission since the Berlin Wall fell. The only time it did have a mission was in Afghanistan, and even then, the French, the Germans and everyone else put their troops a zillion miles away from the actual fighting. All the heavy lifting is done by the same countries who would have done it anyway, NATO or no NATO.

I disagree strongly. The Turks are certainly sensitive on the topic of the armenian genocide but even should it be recognized Turkey will want American weight behind it ever since Russia's recent incursions in the Caucusus. And Turkey may be a key NATO member but it leaving by no means would end NATO. Despite what the rest of the world might want to believe the U.S will recover from the financial crisis as it is by no means the largest economic crisis we've seen (the depression was FAR WORSE) and will only continue to get stronger.
