Look who is working on raisng donations to Texas relief from the snow storm

No doubt because her beloved Green New Deal that she worships was drawing criticism due to the storms

“Flyin’ Ted!”

:p

Maybe she should run in Texas? With a Hispanic surname, she might be a shoe-in! :p

She's really stickin' it to Coups!

Well, between what she's doing, and what Beto Orourke is doing, it's answering the question 'What could Cruz could have done if he stayed in Texas ?' Beto is on phone banks that are calling people to make sure they are ok. and to get food and water , and maybe a place eat that's warm.

The Green New Deal has literally nothing to do with what has happened in Texas. The deregulated, highly capitalist fossil fuel power system failed.

Criticism from Republican liars like Ted Fled, who is only raising donations for himself.

Is there any chance Beto O'Rourke can get back to Congress simply by taking over when his own Senator was in Mexico? He needs to run for Senate on that part of life in Texas.

Ted Cruz can't retire soon enough.

Republicans yell at wind turbines and flee for warmer climates while the very Democrats many of them have spent so much demonizing, from areas these Republicans actively sought to deny aid to during earlier crises, are working overtime to provide aid to desperate Texans. That is the difference between these two parties. There is some amount of bad in both to be sure, but there is an inherent decency....a desire to do good, that you find among many Democratic leaders that is simply absent on the right.

Texas would not be in this mess if they had winterized their grid and energy infrastructure as they were supposed to do. These people are dying in the name of capitalism that puts profit over the safety and well-being of the citizens and customers.

The Green New deal would have helped prevent this disaster.

Why should you spend a lot of money preparing for something that happens about every 100 years? Less than once in a lifetime. That would be ridiculous

Do you have a problem spending BILLIONS and BILLIONS on a major war that has happened in our lifetime?

It has more to do with the way Texas has saved billions upon billions of dollars being off the E-W grid and on their own. They have no regulations to bother with, they aren't subject to the same taxes as states within the East-West grids are. Texas' gasoline and diesel tax rates haven't changed since 1991, very nice for Texans. This catastrophic event in Texas is a warning sign that climate change is affecting weather and will continue to do so in the future. This event was not a 'one-off' and will continue to happen more frequently in the future.

Without any doubt this historic storm is an effect of global warming and this will become the norm in coming years unless Texas and other states move to renewable, clean energy. Why do you think people were told not to drink their water? It's because it's filled with chemicals from oil fracking. Chemicals like benzene, lead and muriatic acid are used in oil fracking. Some of this stuff is what we use to clean our toilet bowls. Because the Texas oil industry is unregulated by the federal government it doesn't have to adhere to safety standards as other states do, nobody really watches to monitor what chemicals are used or how it's treated or contained so it doesn't enter the public water systems. They're unregulated because big oil companies own the state and control everything there, including any federal regulating, there just isn't any.

Texas wants federal help to fix up their grid and get them up to par to withstand intense heat or extreme colds. But Texas has been getting richer and richer -- well only a handful of Texans anyway --- because 'big oil' controlled everything connected to energy in Texas. They happily and greedily saved billions upon billions of dollars that would have otherwise gone to the federal government if they were regulated and part of the main E-W grids. Where did those billions go? Obviously it didn't go into the pockets of people that are suffering the hardest from this historic event, it went into the pockets of the Governor, lobbyists, Occidental Petroleum and state legislators.

No but I view waging war as being the primary purpose of government.

Yeah right. We've had extreme weather events for centuries long before CO2 levels rising became noticeable. Hell back in the 17th century IIRC the northern hemisphere suffered through what was called "the little ice age".

And if the fossil fuel industry controls so much in Texas then why do they have so many windmills to generate electricity?

Because the Texas utility market is private and investors like the famous T Boone Pickens saw the profit in building windmills in west Texas. The operators of these wind mill farms operate them for profit only. They are lightly regulated and when they reach the point where they are no longer profitable, they are shuttered. For example, the Sherbino Wind Farm with a generating capacity of 150MW was shut down on February 1st...

The last time Texas saw a storm of this magnitude was more than eighty years ago. I don't know if you live in Texas or have any memory of this, but Texas’ electric grid nearly melted down in the summer of 2019, when searing temperatures sent electricity demand soaring. We are in a phase of climate change where we're going to see more hurricanes (which we have already), more intense cold winter storms and increased intensity of summer heat. What we should have been doing is preparing for these climate changes by decreasing our use of fossil fuels.

Well when you elect an entire party on the idea that government doesn't work and that party continually fails at governing then there is no political price to pay since failure is the reason they were sent to the various Capitals.
