The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services @USCIS released their FY 2018 report and if you're wondering why ZERO mainstream media outlets have touched it this week it might be because there was a 61% increase from 2017 to 2018 in affirmative asylum applications.

DHS says citizenship approvals rose in 2018 - Washington Times
Homeland Security reached a five-year high in approvals of citizenship applications last year, and swore in more people as naturalized citizens as well, according to the new statistical report released Friday night.

Those numbers contradict the criticisms of congressional Democrats who had complained about backlogs building at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Homeland Security branch that handles legal immigration.

The new report also suggests that far from a crackdown, the government is processing more asylum-seeker petitions than any of the last four years. That included a 61 percent increase from 2017 to 2018 in affirmative asylum applications — though refugee interviews are down from more than 1250,000 in 2016, the last year under President Barack Obama, to just 26,400 in fiscal year 2018 under President Trump.

Still, when the whole panoply of humanitarian programs is considered — asylum, refugees, crime victim visas, Temporary Protected Status and screening for credible fear or reasonable fear of persecution — the numbers were 32 percent higher than fiscal year 2017. Credible fear and reasonable fear are first steps on the asylum track.

That's because more people are applying genius. Contrary to what right wing nuts like to believe Immigration is a supply vs demand problem. Immigrants aren't coming here for a free ride they're coming here to work. When the economy was in full blown recession thanks to George W. Bush there were no jobs available. The result was that we actually saw net zero migration. More people left the United States than came in. As the jobs came back so did the migrants. That has nothing to do with Trump or his polices unless of course you're stupid enough to think Trump deserves credit for the economy which is nonsensically stupid.

Now, all that being said the process of immigrating here and become a citizen is still ridiculously long and unnecessary. Just because we got more approved this year than last year doesn't mean there isn't still an enormous back log. Furthermore, the people being sworn in as naturalized citizens would have came to the country long before Trump was president.

Says "ZERO mainstream media outlets have touched it this week" Then links a "mainstream media outlet" story from this week. Then glosses over the fact that, that 61% increase is what all the hand waving is about from Trump and his supporters.

To deal with the root causes of illegal border crossings, you have to either make the origin countriies better or the destination country worse. tRump and his minions in Washington seem to be choosing the latter.

Then why are people so anxious to come here?

Trump has been a huge disappointment on immigration.
