No the Chief Justice only precide over the impeachment of sitting President. Trump was a sitting Presiden when impeached, but as you said then his term ran out, so the Chief Judge shouldn't preside over the impeachment since he isn't a sitting President anymore. It's just confusing becuase it hasn't happened before. But it's how the law work in this case.

Besides the body that decides whether a Impeachment is legal is the Senate, and they already decided the Impeachment is Constitutional.
