The story speaks for itself.

“He approached several homes asking for directions before arriving at the residence of John Reilly III," who is the Town of Chester highway superintendent, police said.

Reilly, 48, told the victim "to get off his property," and then Reilly allegedly fired multiple shots at the driver while he was trying to leave in his car, police said.”

This has sadly become the norm, make up any reason to try to kill someone. Even when just a delivery guy for Door Dash is lost.

So stupid and pointless.

One thing that stood out, I'm not sure if it was just bad reporting but the article states he was shot in the back while leaving in his car. If he was in his car, hard to shoot someone in the back, no?

Cars aren't bulletproof, and he was said to be driving away, not backing away, so his back would have been facing the shooter.
I would say a minimum of $25,000,000 plus legal costs should cover it, unless he has permanent physical damage.

Thanks, I must have missed the part where he was driving away and assumed he was backing out.

Curious to know the details of these cases where residents seem to come out guns blazing without much provocation. Do they live in high crime areas? History of violence or mental illness? Previous victims of burglary or assault?

Unsure, a bit of speculation, but it reads like the DoorDash driver was shot at while trying to leave (back pointed at him.) Either he was shot trying to get in the car or while driving away. No matter which this was a clear attempt to kill this delivery guy all for making the mistake of asking for directions.

The whole thing is just absurd, and a sad statement on this nation's love affair with guns and finding some bullshit reason to try to kill someone.

I mean..a window and a seat aren't going to stop a bullet. If you fire at the rear of an exiting car and you're aiming at least high enough to get through the window...

I wonder if there was alcohol involved. These don’t sound like the actions of someone in their right mind.

I don’t know if I believe that. The guy delivers food for a living through Door Dash but apparently has no GPS or even a cellphone?

This property doesn’t scream knock on my door in the night to ask for directions. Who does that?

Lost 24-year-old Door Dash delivery guy shot in the back when he stopped to ask for directions.

ACCEPTABLE COLLATERAL DAMAGE

Well, I think the "just stop and ask for directions" notion just got shot down, bigly.

I honestly do not know, would be even more speculation, but I can see a kid confused thinking in a relatively nice area he could ask where a house was. Based on what we do know I cannot find a single item suggesting the homeowner was under threat.

I am sure he has a phone with GPS, the app they use sends them to an address, but mistakes may have been made.

Does not justify trying to kill him.

Maybe, but people need to navigate the world with some common sense. Anyone who lives in a house that secluded is not someone who wants strangers in the night knocking on their door. I expect there’s more to this story. Something happened between the time he got there and when the owner started shooting.

GPS is not perfect. Case in point.
We had a some lake property that if you used Google Maps you would drive about a mile south of our driveway to an open field, Apple Maps would bring you to our door.
One time I told a friend coming down to use Apple, I stood at the end of the drive as he drove by my house, he and his son both riveted to the navigation system of their truck as I waved at them. Passed 12 feet from me. At night we would hang a kerosene lantern from a tree at the drive and tell folks to look for that.

The reason was because the county had just remapped the roads in that area to make them compliant with 911 services. Google was still using the old nomenclature.

Nope.

It's a rural county, with below-average violent crime rates.

History of violence or mental illness? Previous victims of burglary or assault?
The article didn't indicate anything of the sort.

I'd add that being the victim of a previous crime doesn't grant you the legal or moral right to open fire at an unarmed person who knocks on your door.

Dumbasses with guns are going to do more to bring regulations down than all the mass shooters and school shooters.
