Is he wrong?

His poll numbers hovering near 1 percent, Senator Lindsey Graham took a page from the “Straight Talk Express” playbook on Thursday, warning Republicans that they risked losing another presidential election because of what he called extreme views on abortion and immigration.
During a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition forum in Washington, Mr. Graham laid into his rivals for alienating women and minorities. He took particular issue with Senator Ted Cruz, who earlier had evaded a question about why voters who support abortion rights might consider supporting someone like him.

“If you’re going to tell a woman who has been raped she has to carry the child of the rapist, you’re losing most Americans,” Mr. Graham said, referring to Mr. Cruz’s view that abortion should be illegal in all cases. “If the nominee of the Republican Party will not allow for an exception for rape and incest, they will not win. Ted Cruz doesn’t have an exception for rape and incest.”

Senator Marco Rubio, another Republican candidate doing well in the polls, also does not support exceptions for rape and incest, and the issue remains contentious among people who oppose abortion generally. Mr. Graham considers himself “pro-life” but said on Thursday that issues such as national security and taxes should be the focus of Republicans if they want to retake the White House.

The senator also scolded his Republican colleagues for their tone on immigration, and said that Donald J. Trump’s talk of deporting undocumented immigrants en masse could spell the end of the party. He predicted that support from Hispanics could fall into the single digits when voters go to the polls next year.

the pubs were NEVER going to get a significant portion of the hispanic vote

never have, never will

the fact that some RINO's want to pander to the entire community to maybe garner a few votes is ludicrous at best

we tried amnesty once....and it was the worst decision in Reagan's administration, and he is the one that says that

no more illegals....no more amnesty....

we are going to get elected on that platform....we are going to force employers to use documented workers, and we are going to get serious about border security

and if that causes us another election....so be it

i think it will win us this one.....especially with what is happening around the world

seems like safety is becoming an important thing in the minds of americans again....

and we have zero idea who is crossing the border right now....

it all ties together....

The pubs are never going to get minority support, with all of the xenophobia/anti-women BS being spewed.
A few votes???
It's more then a few.
It wasn't a bad decision, and rounding/deporting millions of people is not what America is about. Yeah, americans want "safety" from refugees, just like they wanted safety from the jewish refugees.. Xenophobes always find an enemy.

Yes he is wrong, but because of another reason.

On abortion...

You tell the general population of voters that the government should be deciding these things in any regard and you are "losing most Americans."

Current trends suggest that the majority of all voters (as in general election context) are pro-choice. Now I will stipulate that these polls sometimes get distorted by the nature of the question, the idea of abortions "in certain cases," and so forth. But it is easy to argue that by party affiliation that the general public is leaning more to Independent, Liberal then Conservative in that order. If Republicans push on this issue that *will work* among certain pools of voters on a district level, as in to ensure Congressional seats. However in a general election making this a primary issue means losing a general election to someone else. Just by the numbers when looking at trends for this subject, and trends by party lean.

On Immigration...

Republicans do not stand a chance, the rhetoric is enough to ensure they go Democrat for generations.

I don't really see how he is wrong on this point.

Republicans that they risked losing another presidential election because of what he called extreme views on abortion and immigration.

I don't really see how he is wrong on this point.

Context. He is right when considering prior efforts from within the party to bridge a gap between Republicans and minorities, those efforts that were laughed out of consideration by right wing leaning blowhards that dominate the airwaves. Because there is a business model of appealing to a decreasing demographic in a manner as to make them increasingly angry and scared of the political opposition then Graham is well behind the curve. So I guess he is both right and wrong, right in a general sense but on the wrong page when it comes to current trends within the party (in the context of looking at the overall voting population.)

yes

a few votes

what 5, 6, 7% maybe?

so we allow another 10 million voters, and our side gets 750k of them....

oh, that seems like such a wise move....

they will self deport when their jobs go away....

and wages will go UP....because people will have to pay americans more to get someone to do the same job

the pubs were NEVER going to get a significant portion of the hispanic vote

never have, never will

That could be true. If the GOP nominates a RINO who wants AMNESTY for illegal aliens, then you're right. Of course, Latinos are still a MINORITY. GOP candidates have won without Latino votes in the past.
the fact that some RINO's want to pander to the entire community to maybe garner a few votes is ludicrous at best

You got THAT right, pal.
we tried amnesty once....and it was the worst decision in Reagan's administration, and he is the one that says that

Dittos on that.

no more illegals....no more amnesty....

we are going to get elected on that platform....we are going to force employers to use documented workers, and we are going to get serious about border security

THAT platform will get the LEGAL Latino vote. And there are a lot of Latinos out there PISSED OFF that they waited in line while the illegals broke the line.

and if that causes us another election....so be it

It won't if Trump is the nominee.

i think it will win us this one.....especially with what is happening around the world

seems like safety is becoming an important thing in the minds of americans again....

Jewish refugees aren't coming here to chop off the heads of Christian children on American soil.

Ask Paris about xenophobia.

Of course Republicans are going to get minority support. The flagrant exploitation of illegal aliens by the liberal/progressive party is resulting in the destruction of minority communities across the Nation. Does the liberal/progressive party expect these minority communities to not notice? Does the liberal/progressive party expect these minority communities to tolerate this forever?

Blinded by arrogance I suppose, and about to be rejected for the PC war its been waging on citizens, the liberal/progressive party is in significant trouble, with nothing in place to address these blatant strategic failures of their agenda and in the game plan to blanket the US with it.

They aren't going to get minority support.
You need to demonstrate evidence of this. You don't get the support of minorities by downplaying cop violence, wanting to deport millions of people, etc..
How many times can you say "liberal/progressive" in a post?

I wasn't aware the paris attackers were syrian refugees.

Paris bomber had Syria refugee passport, official says - CNN.com

What made it worse? Sunday's revelation that at least one of the Paris terrorists who killed more than 120 people on Friday entered Europe as just another face in the crowd -- embedded in the current wave of Syrian war refugees. The development appears likely to fire up the security debate over what to do with them.

Why Syrian refugee passport found at Paris attack scene must be treated with caution | World news | The Guardian

One of the most chilling details from the Paris attacks is that the passport of a Syrian refugee was found on or near the body of a dead suicide bomber. The Greek government has subsequently said that someone using the passport was among the refugees who landed in the Greek islands in early October, and the Serbian government says the passport was again used to cross its southern border a few days later.

What, embarrassed by the connection? I'm just trying to be clear. Sometimes there are too many them, they, him, her, in posts and the object gets lost. So, in other words, I'll use liberal/progressive as often as I deem necessary.

As to your post, these changes are already underway. The Trump news conference with Black Religious leaders the other day is a good example.

Considering the never ending lies about race and the Republican Party the liberal/progressive party instructs its followers to spread, who could imagine any Black person appearing in the same room with Trump. But they did, which pretty much vaporizes the "they aren't going to get minority support" meme the liberal/progressive party is hoping people believe.

Again, with the economic harm illegal invitees of the liberal/progressive party are causing in Black Communities, how much longer do you expect them to be blind to what is going on? Rather arrogant to think forever.

Using your PUB logic, the GOP will end-up the party of angry older white guys and social conservatives.

Americans have little compunction about hiring foreigners to do the 'same job'... corporations have ZERO problem hiring Chinese workers to build what we once made- AND blame high American wages as the reason the jobs went overseas...

Many PUBs forget once born in the USofA we are ALL Americans- those Americans are resentful their 'fellow' Americans are so nasty toward their parents and all they sacrificed to give these new Born in the USA children a shot at the same dream Cruz and Rubio had handed to them.

PUBs are short term checker players... 10 million is roughly 3% of the population- not a huge game changer like the mass migration of southern social conservatives was. Where PUBs need to take a deep breathe and consider is as each new Born in the USA generation of a ethnic group is mainstreamed (key word there- mainstreamed) the stereotype some give that groups dissipates.

A tight roman catholic family that settles for generations in one city block- soon becomes a family spread out across the USofA, embraces a wide variety of religions, businesses, family size, and..... political views.

Instead of the angry old white guy screaming at kids to get off his lawn, the GOP would be far better served to tamp down the anger and accept the influx knowing that soon enough the children of those immigrants will find their own mind on everything from where to live, what to do as work and who to vote for... :peace

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YOU ARE SERIOUSLY USING THE "trump news conference?"

I wasn't aware the paris attackers were syrian refugees.

Because they were not all from Syria, one might have been, and another had a fake passport from Syria. There is still dependency on one or two of the attackers as to where they came from.

It was an ISIS attack, and was likely planned from within Syria somewhere... but additional xenophobia would not have stopped this attack. Most appeared to be from from France or Belgium best I can tell.

Yeah, and we know that xenophobia only helps ISIS.

Yeah, and we know that xenophobia only helps ISIS.

The precise lesson we never learn. Our attempts to vilify refugees itself helps ISIS recruit... they do not want you, but we do.

Does not always work, but they only need a handful of recruits to strike somewhere.

that may be....but i dont think so

as dylan wrote so eloquently back so many years..."the times, they are a changin'"

portraying everyone as victims, and downplaying the role your side has had in killing the economic well being of minorities is going to come back and bite you guys right in the ass

my name isnt kreskin....i wont make any predictions

i just think you guys are way way too overconfident, especially about the minority community

were rubio to get the nod from the GOP, i believe he would realize a sizable chunk of the hispanic vote
just as many blacks voted for Obama because of his ethnicity, so too will many latinos vote to achieve another historic milestone
and unlike cruz, rubio takes positions that are not in opposition to that of most of the hispanic community
