My lack of a better solution does not mean restricting every poster is a viable solution.

I do not have the knowledge or skill for this, but if there is actually a bot, banning it or blocking that type of thing somehow could be an option?
It is not just a solution to a problem, it is a common sense rule and framework.

Personally, I like the 3-4-5 version at 1k and 10k.

Another problem that could arise (not to give them any ideas) is for someone to keep bringing up their own threads. So far nobody's done it, not even me.

If people don't respond to threads, they pass into the void of scrolling off the front page of a forum section.
Not responding to the discussion in their threads.

That's your opinion. If you want to control how a forum is run, start your own.
I'm not trying to control it, I'm just making a suggestion and shortly await the Moderators call and end of this discussion.

Limit Threads to 4 Per Day:

I mean really folks, this is a public forum with global exposure, none of us own this forum and none of us have the right to monopolize it.

When I click on a Forum, I want don't want to one guy's threads taking up half the page.

I'd like my thread to stick around a bit and pick up further discussion, not be scrolled off the page in a couple of days by one guy.

Fortunately, the heavy posters post good discussion, but now the bot PatrickOlinger has taken over the off-topic page on his first day, repeating a topic and not answering its threads. If it would answer me I might not mind talking to it, but a thread limit would keep a bot from overexposure and scrolling the discussion. A bot or person might post profusely to rig the discussions politically. If they want to rig the discussions, let them do it the old-fashioned way, by taking part in other's threads.
I hate when I'm a naive dummy; did I actually respond to a bot?? Olinger? I tried to convince a bot to try sticking to political content. OMG. So embarrassing. On the upside, he/it's gone.

Not quite, there's no red banner under his name.

How do you say he's gone?

I am not convinced that the problem you're proposing this solution for is big enough to need it.

He's not posting endless threads...or any today that I've seen.

OK, be a home for people without a life, that's all we are anyway, get used to pages of one poster scroll. I'll have to find another way to control your elections.

Are you pretending to be a chat AI now?

Tag Pat in here, however that is done, and see if "he" responds.
How's that done anyway? Pretty new to any "SM". Actually this is it!

Maybe require 4 new threads from each user per day.

😎

You're right, maybe I was pre-mature, perhaps he was just a smart guy, but if he was so smart, why would he fill up the global discussion with thirteen pages of horse**** and not keep up with it?

One of the harder things I've found it necessary to do is try and see the world from the perspective of another.

So I mainly just gave up and assumed they had a reason, if not a good one, for doing whatever the F they were doing.

Some of that stuff is unacceptable though, I just don't draw the line at number of posts/day

You're right, he hasn't posted since 5:00pm yesterday.

I don't suppose anyone would want to tag him to the discussion, I don't know how.

If "he" was so smart, why post mostly entertainment stuff on a political debate site? I did a DP search on his name and came up with nothing. Think he's gone. Could be wrong, but no posts today. Yet.

Having to get to a certain post count is a fine idea, although an eager new member could get there rather quickly. The quality of those posts could be revealing though, don't you think?
As an aside, breaking news threads. If it is something acute, like a shooting, check at least the first page of 'latest threads'. Chances are one already exists. Please.

I don't find bad discussion.

Boring maybe, uninteresting, but, come on, a joker, has got to fling one once in a while.

One of my favorite lines is, "Eight ball, corner pocket." We won't say what that means because of the rules.

The posters here are pretty good at policing the offenders, imo.

I don't know how either, but his threads weren't even real threads, they were more like poll questions, and almost nothing related to politics. I sent him a private message when he started complaining about rude posters, suggesting the reason for the rudeness may have something to do with the fact that this is political debate site, and I also reached out to a mod. Next thing I know, he's not posting. I've only been here 2 months, but I've never experienced a member posting endless back to back threads like that.

I get the impression the poster is a new person on the internet for the first time. Probably shut down from people attacking him.

That's a valid point. The few times I've tried to start thread, it's already there! And that works just fine for me!

Oh, it could have been an Ai practicing to see if it could recognize us. Giving people the opportunity to divulge information or do something foolish, like, "How long have you been a member here." People who want to divulge that have already. I'll give the kid credit though, his only problem is that this is not a platform for people to follow along in his discussions. No, they get all chopped apart and scrolled.

This site is here for people who want to debate, not for someone's news feed.

Funny, after I gently told him that, he changed the category to political discussions, but the threads still weren't political. There are so many entertainment sites, he just needs to find one where people want to talk about his stuff.
