Light at the end of the Tunnel?

Yes we are but how can we be sure the light isn't another on coming train? I do think we are turning a corner and we have so many new tools to deal with this. I just want the kids back to real normal and the hospitals back to normal too.

I am an optimist. Come June we will back to "normal". However, since good news is of no interest to the media, I also predict that we will continue to hear about potential new strains until eternity ends.

Back in late December Dr. John Campbell predicted that we would see the number of cases in the U.S. start declining between the last week of January and the beginning of February, and it looks like he was right. He's the only person I watch for covid information and statistics.

Based upon your recommendation, I did a little research on him, and he appears to have an excellent reputation, and an ideology I can appreciate.

Consequently, I'm going to check him out.

Thanks! 🍻

Edit:

At first I was disappointed to find he is not a Medical Doctor; but then, I found he was a PhD nurse educator. That's perfectly fine, and not a detriment.

I think so, too. Enough so, that I started the thread below! :p

I'm glad you put 'normal' in quotes. Because I too am optimistic; but only to the point we will have some kind of 'new normalcy' allowing us to 'more-or-less' function mostly fully. Some things will be different, and the way we go about life will still be different in some ways, but most of what we think of 'normal functioning' will occur.

He basically supports all covid preventions and treatments, including vaccines and masks.

What I really like about him is he doesn't allow politics to play any part in what he does. He presents ALL the facts and statistics regardless of what they might be, and conveys what experts from around the world are saying.

I think there will be enough immunity around that it can be treated as a seasonal respiratory disease by then We will adapt. I hope that we learn enough so that the next pandemic won't be as painful.

It's encouraging, but we will know by the mid february (unless another variant comes out that is as contagious as omnicron as as deadly as delta
Bet you're fun at a party.....😉🙃

Well, just being realistic. There is a variant in the Netherlands that look like it's even more contagious than omicron. It doesn't seem like it's more deadly (at the moment).

Uuugh.....

One thing that is happening with Omicron is that it has been extremely infective but mild. My wife and I and 99% of our friends avoided getting infected for over 22 months and in the last 2 months 90% of all us got Omicron. The positive thing is that with 1 exception, none of us got sick enough to have to go to the hospital and in most cases the effects were mild. No worse than getting the flu.

When we went to get tested, the lines of cars waiting to be tested was huge and that suggests that Omicron is getting to everyone.

Omicron is going to give the large portion of the population the antibodies needed to get some form of herd immunity. If that does occur the amount of variants that could come up will drop as that is the key to herd immunity (less variants).

This is the reason I feel we may be getting on the downslope of this pandemic.

That is the hope, and there are some indications that is true. I will be taking precautions never the less. There is no garentee that the next variant will not be as mild as omicron. In some respects, omicron was the best case scenario , where a milder form spreads quickly through the population, and protects against a far deadly version. I believe in hoping for the best and preparing for the worse. This is the best case that could have been expected at this point

I too will continue to take precautions. It seems as if omicron came out of nowhere and blindsided us so I feel it wise to anticipate another. While I agree that in some respects onicron is a best case scenario for the population at large it has been anything but for our beleaguered healthcare workers and the business community as they struggle with high numbers of patients or employees shortages. Something this contagious negatively impacts the community even if the deaths are low. Hospital beds are still jammed and teachers and nurses are off the job. Omicron may be milder but it is seriously disruptive.

but peaking!..............and no new variant on the horizon.

I would venture a guess that by March, things regarding the pandemic will be much better here in the U.S.

.........and no new variant on the horizon.
How do we know that? I certainly hope there isn't but we didn't see omicron on the horizon either.

750,000 cases a day, 3,000 deaths per day...

You people have a weird sense of optimism...

To be sure. THere are a lot of covidiots out there, and if they bothered to get vaccinated, the hospitals would be much less overwhelmed. But, the covidiots getting hit with a milder version of covid is better than something this contagious that is as deadly as delta.

We are not seeing the need for refigerator trucks to handle corpses this time around. I don't want to see that again.

I am ashamed to admit that I no longer give a darn or have any sympathy/empathy for covidiots who get very sick and even die. I only care about the damage they do to our communities and healthcare workers. It is very difficult for me to acknowledge or accept this in me but it honestly how I feel.
