Willie Brown saw a smart woman who he appointed to a couple of committees and supported for her first run for D.A. in SF County, but by that time she had already been recruited to the D.A.'s office and later the City Attorney's office--and not by Brown. Willie Brown was known for his many girlfriends. He didn't routinely put them in the political arena. She earned it with her smarts, not her performance between the sheets. That may have been how he got to know her, but what he found was promise. He was right, too. She has gone far.
