Since Obama keeps talking about making “sacrifices”, here are a few ideas if the government takes over health care.

Hope ya’ll will be ready for these since the government does not consider you smart enough to make your own health care decisions then you must not be allowed to make your own life-style decisions that may impact your health, etc.

1. Abortions will have to be eliminated. Having an abortion is a moral decision and the state cannot make moral decisions for its citizenry or fund those decisions. As such, you will not be allowed to have an abortion with my tax money. There is that whole “wall of separation between church and state” that must be considered.

2. Smoking is a dangerous habit. To reduce the cost of health-care, smoking will be illegal and the entire tobacco industry will have to be shut-down forcing millions out of jobs and plunging us into a deeper recession.

3. Same for alcohol.

4. Fast-food restaurants do nothing more than promote the obesity of our population and lead to heart disease. They must all be shut-down to maintain health-care cost.

5. Sugary snacks will have to go. So long Little Debbie and Coca-Cola.

6. Salt can lead to high-blood pressure. You’ll need a license to purchase it.

7. Since kids can’t be trusted, all males beginning at age 12 will be issued condoms from their local school. This will be mandatory.

8. In addition, all females beginning with their first menstrual cycle will be forced to undergo regular gynecological exams at their local school. These will be mandatory.

9. You will no longer be permitted to drive your car for distances of five miles or less. You need the exercise.

10. Motorcycles, jet-skis, motorboats, go-carts, dune buggies, skate boards, sky diving and fire-works promote risky behaviors and will have to be made unlawful. You must not participate in activities that will drive-up health care costs.

11. Guns are a source of health problems and must be completely banned. Violators will be shot.

12. All children will be forced to wear helmets until they turn 18. Safety first and we all know how accident prone and clumsy children are.

13. Children will be forced to undergo physical exams at their local schools without parental knowledge or consent. We have to do it for the children!

14. All professional and amateur contact sports can lead to physical injury and must be banned to keep health care cost at a minimum. Goodbye NFL, NBA, boxing and all Little League Sports.

15. Stupid people are always making bad decisions and hurting themselves and other. As such, all you “Forrest Gump” types will be forced to remain in-doors.

16. There is no secret as to what behaviors cause venereal diseases including HIV/AIDs. Anyone contacting these types of diseases has acted selfishly and without any consideration for the greater good of our society. As such, all care to treat these conditions will be denied. They are simply too costly.

Of course, this is just off the top of my head.

Anybody got anymore ideas?

Ok, so, there are countries in the world with both single payer systems and with public options alongside private options. Now, please give me an example of a country that has banned smoking, soda, fast food, etc that has either of these systems.

Furthermore, no one is talking about government run health care anyway. The single payer option is off the table so stop with the disinformation campaign.

As for having other ideas. Yes, you should stop being so paranoid and posting such outlandish OPs.

Apparently you've missed all the prominent Dems who ARE talking about single-payer.

Don't know about anyone else but I think I'll take the OP as what I believe it was intended to be. A satire.

It was more of a satirical analogy. Not a very good one, either.

1. Abortions will have to be eliminated. Having an abortion is a moral decision and the state cannot make moral decisions for its citizenry or fund those decisions. As such, you will not be allowed to have an abortion with my tax money. There is that whole “wall of separation between church and state” that must be considered.

By that logic, pacifists shouldn't have to pay taxes relating to defense because they sincerely believe that the annihilation of their own selves and nation is preferable to providing support for willful bloodshed.

The separation of church and state is one of the government's most important directives, but it isn't anymore absolute than any of the other rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights. It can only be implemented to the utmost degree possible, not to the absolute utmost degree. If anti-abortionists are owed any consideration for religious exemption, it is for the Supreme Court to decide.

2. Smoking is a dangerous habit. To reduce the cost of health-care, smoking will be illegal and the entire tobacco industry will have to be shut-down forcing millions out of jobs and plunging us into a deeper recession.

You can't make smoking outright illegal due to legal and practical concerns, although for the reasons mentioned policies which aim to reduce the number of smokers (public funded rehabilitation centers) might make sense. This evades recession-causing effects because it would ease the nation out of the habit (therefore giving the private sector time to accommodate the subsequent economic shift) while satisfying the need to curb health care costs.

Alternatively, the health costs of smoking could be considered a necessary evil if we are to maintain individual liberty to the utmost degree possible.

It gave me something to do.

Nazi Germany.

There would be too much abuse. We'll simply ration out a certain amount to each person every month. To make sure that people don't cheat by eating out, they would have to pay some salt in order to eat at the restaurant.

(1000th post, just if I ever want to find this again)
