Just weeks after Maine Governor Paul LePage granted a full pardon to a dog, a district court has overturned the decision and ordered the Siberian husky named Dakota to be euthanized.
I've never even heard of a pardon being overturned before. Much less a pardon being used on a dog. But being that LePage issued the pardon in reference to a state law being violated, not a federal one, I can't see why he's not well within his rights as Governor of Main to give a pardon to the dog. Not sure why the court would use the excuse that's quoted in the article to overturn the pardon. Pardons are for such things.
As far as I know a governor can't pardon federal crimes and a President can't pardon state crimes. If that was done then I can see it being overturned (and probably has happened) but as is? I just don't see why the judge thinks she can overrule it.
Has a presidential pardon ever been issued for a state crime and challenged in court?
This is certainly an interesting case. Can a dog be pardoned, can a judge overturn a pardon, and what does it mean for the future of human pardons in Maine?

The ruling has been appealed the the Maine Supreme Court so the dog is safe until then, and apparently this isn't even the first time the Maine Supreme Court has heard a case regarding a dog pardon.

No idea. Pardons aren't my forte. Beyond what I stated in my post I know bupkis.

Wait? I thought only pit bulls bit people?
Seriously though. This is an interesting topic.
