LeBron James Takes It Over the Top

By JONATHAN ABRAMS
Published: February 14, 2009
Basketball’s most intimidating drive starts gracefully enough, a serene beginning that belies a familiar, yet devastating finish at the rim that may have no equal in the N.B.A.

LeBron James creates a dilemma for opponents: to be or not to be physical defending him.

LeBron James’s blend of athleticism, size, strength and speed makes him an almost unstoppable force when he is driving to the basket. That blend is a major reason he is leading the N.B.A. in scoring at 28.5 points per game. His skills, which will be on display Sunday in Phoenix at the N.B.A. All-Star Game, have lifted the Cleveland Cavaliers (40-11) to the third-best record in the league.

James is 6 feet 8 inches, roughly the height of most of basketball’s small forwards, though he seems bulkier than his rivals at a weight listed at 250 pounds. Despite his size, James covers more ground stride for stride than almost any other N.B.A. player.

An excellent article on the NBA's most dominating player, Cleveland Cavalier, LeBron James.

Yes, he is simply the best...... For now:cool:

Overrated

Who saw him play against two great defenders (Shane Battier, Ron Artest)?

He got shutdown on the stat line... It was his first game with no assists.

LeBron is a very aggressive attacker, and he's good at it, but I think it's a lot more easier to get hurt playing the way he does. It's fortunate for him that he hasn't really been seriously injured.

I play with a couple guys who try to mimic LeBron, but every game they end up getting hurt, either by falling on their ass or putting too much strain on their knees.

Oh, and I agree that Artest is one helluva defender. He's also a huge threat behind the arch. One of the more underrated players in the NBA, imo.

I watched that game. The Rockets completely shut him down, and went on to beat Cleveland by 19 points.

Would Kobe or Paul Pierce or Chris Paul or any of the other big-name players have done better in LeBron's situation?

I saw the Rockets-Lakers game last night, and Koby did well. He and Artest kicked each other's butts all night, but in the end, Koby did a little better, as the Lakers beat the Rockets by 6. Artest had his number in the first half, but in the second half, Koby was..... Well, Koby was Koby.

Out of the 3 you named Kobe is the only one I consider better, in the sense of an NBA player. The others are great, but that doesn't make them a dominant force to be reckoned with. Kobe is one of the only players in the game that has the ability to answer any challenges at will.

Kobe, IMHO, is the 3rd best player in the NBA. Dwight Howard is unmatched at his position.

For number 5, Nash would be a good choice.

Right now, Chris Paul is better than Nash ever was. The complete point guard. Nash couldn't defend my grandmother in the post or perimeter .

Its too bad Lebron James didn't become a football player. He was a highly touted receiver as a Jr. in Ohio, a talent rich state for HS football players, but didn't play his senior year to focus on basketball. Sure he'll make more money in the NBA and not have a potentially dangerous injuries to face, but with his skill, size, and athleticism out at the WR position, who could stop him?

Nobody:mrgreen: But becoming the best NBA player is more rewarding than becoming the best NFL receiver from a longevity standpoint, as well as a financial/commercial one.

Kobe is better than LeBron. I hate to say it, but Kobe is right up there with Jordan and Jabar. LeBron is still a phenomenal player, I look forward to watching him develop further.

He's not at risk of getting crushed like a melon in the NBA.
He's not at risk of dying from a heat stroke in the NBA.

He's getting paid a whole lot more. He is way more marketable in the NBA.
