LaVoy Finicum's family calls death 'unjustified,' says FBI covering up real story | OregonLive.com

This is fascinating. We watched this false meme starting to develop right here (and all over the internet one bets) after a day or two as it took the rightwing puke-o-sphere that long to concoct this absurd interpretation of what we can all clearly see happening on the video.

The family, who released the second statement Tuesday through its lawyer, drew its conclusions based on further viewing of the video released by the FBI last week and accounts of the shooting from Shawna Cox, a passenger in Finicum's truck who was released last week.
emphasis added

Yes, "further viewing" being the euphemism for making **** up. Remember Shawna Cox's first account? It was that Finicum was shot immediately on leaving the truck and yet quite spryly was able to move a good thirty feet further without the slightest sign of injury. He was such a superman that even when he stopped walking (and was presumably being filled with lead) he was able to make two very quick movements to the inside of his jacket then wheel quickly to face the OSP officer coming up behind him. We don't have the official autopsy report yet but we already know that the bundyistas will claim there were actually ten wounds to every one that the autopsy documented.

Based on the video and two eyewitness accounts, the statement said, "what we believe the video shows is that LaVoy was being fired upon before he even got out of the truck."

At least they use the word "believe" instead of see or know. Belief over reality is the only way anyone could come up with this bull ****. But it is fascinating to witness how devoted the rightwing is to the lie, no matter what the situation. And the preposterousness of the lie is no barrier. In fact, the more idiotic the lie is the more dedicated they become to it.

But just to repeat: We all knew this would happen if any of these criminals got killed (and Finicum promised to die rather than be taken). So that's why so much care was taken to try to avoid this very thing from happening. But Finicum forced the hand of the LEOs.

I've been comparing the rightwing response to this killing to that of the outrage in the black community over the killing of Michael Brown. We remember how far the rightwing went to justify that killing of an unarmed black man and how grotesquely hypocritical those very same cop supporters are being now. But that is their usual m.o. And then they whine when their well-deserved ridicule is "awarded."

Clearly, white lives don't matter.

Yes. That is an essential part of the white supremacists' fake-victimhood canon. One dead armed white criminal who vowed not to be taken alive counts more than all the unarmed men "of color" ever shot by police (or anyone else). Right?

Hands up, don't shoot.

It was just the opposite:

“He’s like, just shoot me then, just shoot me — and they did, they shot him dead,” Sharp said.
Victoria Sharp was a passenger in Finicum's truck. But, then again, I believe she was the source for the very obvious lie that Finicum was on his knees when they shot him.

Source (which also contains accounts as to what was going on inside the truck and Finicum's "state of mind" before he exited the truck):
Witnesses dispute conspiracy theories about LaVoy Finicum dying on his knees

So, it's clear that Finicum intended to die and when the cops didn't shoot when he first came out of the truck he continued to ignore their orders to surrender and then made the gestures inside his jacket in order to force the hands of the LEOs.

Somehow, I don't see a great deal of public outcry or concern for this guy catching-on, to be honest.

This crowd is a very tiny minority, that much of America despises.

If more of these guys want to exhibit the same behaviour, well they now know what the outcome will be. This is real life - and actions have consequences.

The FBI report is good enough for me.

I believe part of the reason why this crowd may find it so easy to lie, is they live in a false sense of reality, to the point of delusion. They have no sense of objective reality as to the ruling of courts in relation to the Constitution or the role of federal government, and they feed off each other in their errant thought.

One goofy guy in the compound hacked one of the fed computers, but claimed it was O.K. to do it since he wasn't manipulating the data!

And their thought processes are filled with examples like this.

I'd hate to see what delusional false-reality they concoct, when a bunch of these yahoos are all off on their own in the compound feeding off each other & talking-it-up! Marone! To be a fly on those walls! SNL, here we come!

Only problem here is eventually delusion meets reality, with disastrous results. That would appear to have occurred during Mr. Finicum's traffic stop.

Agreed. But I'm of the school that every one of these goddam lies requires demolition no matter how ineffective they may at first seem. It's not for nothing that rightwing lies are called "zombie lies."

Is that what I said? And where did you get such vast knowledge of "the white supremacists' fake-victimhood canon?" Are you an active member?

That could have been said (and was) about liberals post Fergusson. Hands up, digit, don't shoot.

Hands up, don't shoot.

Correct, IF you keep your hands up, the LEOs won't shoot you. IF you drop your hands, etc. the LEOs will shoot you.

I agree, "The FBI report is good enough for me."

Yes, reality caught up w/ Finicum and the rest.

BUT, even w/ the presence of the FBI video showing the realities of the LEOs' JUSTIFIED shooting of Finicum, and apprehension of the rest...the delusional crowd continues to lie, and to FAIL to accept reality.

Plz see my Poll Question.

Umm... I'm not seeing a whole lot of outrage and demands for an investigation surrounding this shooting. IIRC the Micheal Brown thing gave us "hands up, don't shoot", days and days of civil unrest in Ferguson, and later on spawned the whole "black lives matter" movement. Are you really suggesting that outrage over this idiot getting rightfully shot by police is spawning the same level of outrage? If you are, I can't seem to find it. Maybe you could point me to it?

He was on his knees, but in a Dorf-esque way. He was knee deep in snow, so it probably appeared that he was on his knees.

The level of vitriol and the overall nasty tone of his post indicates to me that he intends to project that whether its there or not.

I don't have a dog in this particular hunt, but after you shoot the fox, is it necessary to gloat over the corpse?

Well, if you were trying to squeeze some humor out of this you certainly succeeded.

Putting facts up is not projection but I'm not surprised that you can't tell the difference. Oh, heavens no, you don't have a dog in this but you sure needed to offer a particularly absurd strawman point to show your displeasure at having to face the lies about the way the fox was killed (since you like your canid metaphors, too, I'll play along). Your comment goes into "protests-too-much" file.

Is that what I said? And where did you get such vast knowledge of "the white supremacists' fake-victimhood canon?" Are you an active member?

You seem to be the one taking offense at my comment where none was necessarily intended. I see how it could have been taken as an accusation but it just as easily could not have been. So you're dudgeon makes me think you didn't mean your comment to be taken ironically but really do have that fake-victim complex.

I'm kind of where most people are in this thing--they picked the wrong way to protest and it was pretty clear it was going to end badly one way or another. I am unsurprised that he someone in the protest side was killed. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I'm also not going to gloat about it and crow over protests of family members about what happened. They cant be happy that a member of their family has been killed but that doesn't lend any proof to what they are alleging.

So, Im taking issue with your broad brush and your implied level of support for this group on the right. Its a mixed bag at best and this:

At least they use the word "believe" instead of see or know. Belief over reality is the only way anyone could come up with this bull ****. But it is fascinating to witness how devoted the rightwing is to the lie, no matter what the situation. And the preposterousness of the lie is no barrier. is an argument without merit, because there is no wide support for their actions and what those actions caused.

Its really nice of you to try and say everyone on the right is like this. I would hope you know this isn't true, but hey, maybe it isn't. Maybe you really are that lost in partisan blinders. Or maybe you think emotionally charged, cruddy arguments are good ones, I don't know, but you make more than your share of stereotyping arguments.

The above is completely incoherent. What are you claiming right wingers are saying? The only ones I know of back up the police.

I saw the film. He clearly made a movement like he was going for a gun. I didn't see any gun, though. Might have been suicide by cop.

As for the celebrated shooting of certain unarmed blacks, what disturbs me about that is the way that the black community has its own set of facts at odds with official accounts even when the officials involved are themselves black and the witnesses contradicting their narrative are black, and even the policemen are black, and so on. Of the cops who clearly were unjustified in shooting that have come out in the news, those are being charged with crimes.

One tends to discount the claims of activists who sell narratives proven false. The idea that cops are getting away with unjustified shootings of unarmed blacks in significant numbers is bogus. The idea that they aren't shooting unarmed whites is false.

When this country elected a black man to the most powerful office in the world the twilight of the race hustler was at hand, and what we are seeing are the increasingly desperate efforts of the Al Sharptons of the world to keep their grip on power.

Were you this worked up over the false "hands up don't shoot" meme in Ferguson? No? Didn't think so.

If I have a 'complex' it is one that impels me to reply to bone-headed bait threads. I will have to work on that.

My first thought of this shooting is "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". The video that was taken from the helicopter justified shots being fired in my opinion.

I am neither a farmer or rancher so I have zero knowledge of much the federal government is overstepping its bounds with these people. I do know that public land is owned by the public and managed by the government. Even the op article calls the land federally owned. Um,,,, no, it is federally managed. It belongs to the people. I live in the San bernardino national forest and am fed up with paying fees to enjoy recreation in it. I have less of an issue if there is a federal investment (toilets, trash cans, fire rings, picnic benches, etc. But to hustle me for more money to hike, or target practice, or snow sled? Piss off!

They just need to get to the civil lawsuit as this is what this is all about.

The article states
The family members said they believed Finicum left his white truck to draw fire away from the other three occupants, which included an 18-year-old girl.
which explains why he raced the vehicle carrying those three occupants up over a snow bank next to the parked police vehicles putting all their lives in danger.

If his truck went into a skid and crashed into the police vehicles the family would blame the police for the roadblock.

It would only be incoherent to someone who hasn't been reading the "cops murdered Finicum" comments from several members. So when you just drip, er, drop in like this in the middle of it and pontificate about "everyone you know" supports the police it really makes you look, well, like a poseur. The rest of your comment quickly degenerates into the usual rightwing version of the Tasmanian Devil meltdown. Stale and rancid.
