SCOTUS just basically agreed to racial profiling for Latinos in LA, and I'm sure this can be extended to anywhere.

The U.S. Supreme Court today granted the Trump administration’s emergency request to lift a
temporary restraining order barring federal immigration officials from conducting “roving
patrols” and profiling people based on their appearance in Los Angeles and Southern
California.

The case is likely to have an enormous impact, not just for Los Angeles but across the country,
several experts told CalMatters. It means immigration agents can legally resume aggressive
street sweeps that began in early June in Los Angeles, the epicenter for President Donald
Trump’s mass deportation campaign.

The Supreme Court, by a 6-3 majority, agreed with the Trump administration that federal
immigration officers can briefly detain and interrogate individuals about whether they are
lawfully in the United States and that they can rely on a “totality of circumstances” standard
for reasonable suspicion. That means everything the officer knew and observed at the time
of the stop.

Sign, America is definitely moving backwards.

Papers don't matter. They are removing American citizens.

"Yes, U.S. citizens have been wrongfully detained and deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to systemic flaws, inadequate training, and administrative errors. While it is illegal to deport U.S. citizens, the errors persist, affecting hundreds of individuals and families over the years."

Rightwing radicals love their fascism.

MAGA is mainstream, not the 'rightwing radicals' of lore:

MAGA.

The Extreme Court has zero credibility. Zero.

profiling is good

in cities that have willingly brought in so many non-citizens, it is needed

Calif conveniently doesn't issue enhanced drivers licenses which would have solved this 'problem'. They only have themselves to blame.

How would an enhanced driver’s license keep a person from being harassed by the police based on their appearance and job?
Is showing your ID harassment?

Huh...

He used Hispanics to win the election and now he can shit all over them as he always intended.

Way too many suckers in this nation of ours...

I feel fine walking around with no ID. But I live in NJ where law enforcement tends to be reasonable.

Catastrophic loss for the Repubs going into the midterms.

So let's say I'm Latino and walking around without papers. Doesn't the concept of probable cause apply if the police want to stop me?

The way I see it I don't need to prove citizenship, they need to have a reasonable suspicion that I am not.

I've been well ahead of the curve by having gotten a passport card for myself and insisted family members do the same. I'd rather not carry a passport around, which is why I opted for both a passport for travel and a card for unexpected encounters with immigration officials.

What you're trying to avoid is getting detained by ICE, because those who have don't get a chance to notify anyone so it creates a whole mess for family members etc. I would not assume anything about my rights in this country anymore so I'd rather be prepared to avoid something like that altogether. I'm also avoiding rural areas devoid of brown people because that's where my kind stands out, so it's just not worth the risk.
